I prefer a rarity list a lot more. I do feel like a lot of older rats from ‘08 and ‘09 should be added and I agree about store pets having a separate list.

Ok, so what I've done here is gone through that rarity changes archive and marked in red all the pets that are not currently on the list. NEW: now all the ones that dropped back to rare after the rarity overhaul are marked in blue (: It's clear from this what a mess the rares list truly is, with so much being left off. I'm going to see if I can find a record that any of these dropped back to rare at any point, but otherwise this could be a useful guide both for what pets should be included and which are rarer?

^ excellent thank you! When we were gathering pets to be counted for the pet count project, we noticed that a lot of pets that turned VR alongside current List pets were not on the List at all, so we included them in our list of pets to be counted with the reasoning that if they turned VR that early then they obviously are actually pretty darn rare.

I am not sure how I stumbled upon this, but I have 100% support!
I feel like Chicken smoothie is getting too difficult when it comes to trading, and as someone aiming for a complete collection, I can say that it has not been easy ;w;

I do have a quick question though! I see a lot of people able to tell when certain pets went VR and whatnot, and I was wondering where I could find that information. I have a few pets I want to suggest, but I want to make sure that based on the time of their rarity change it would be a good suggestion.

If any of you have an idea, let me know! I am not very knowledgeable on pet rarities, at least not like some people on this site, but in my time here I have gained at least a little bit of knowledge and I would like to try and help this list out a little. ^^

I'm not sure I'm comfortable voting in the poll, because if this is going to be a rarity-based list, then I'd much rather have a cutoff for rarity changes rather than pet adoption date, if that makes sense? (and then have notes for pets released after the cutoff that started out as VR since we have no idea where in the VR range they are)

For the pet count project, lil rascal made a list here of all non-List pets that turned VR pretty early, which we are including in our list for the pet counter to count. I feel kinda bad linking it but the pet count project and this rarity-based List idea do overlap a lot and so I think some resources can be shared.

I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread yet but I agree with nickjr about not limiting based on age, one of the things that really bugged me about the rares list was they refused to consider that newer VRs that had been VR since release could be just as rare, if not rarer than some list pets. The August pps and robo rat are two examples I can think of where no one really knows how rare they truly are.

No worries at all with linking to that post, I gathered that information ages ago and happily share it with anyone interested. The main tools I use for rarity research are the rarity changes archive, the wayback machine, and just lots of forum searching with different terms. Lya also had a good list of what turned and when and links to evidence but I haven't seen her around for awhile so not sure if she'd be happy with me linking to it.

I really hope this tread isn't shut down & people referred back to the rares list as happens with most other threads like this

Regarding that list I made with the red and black pets [which is pretty well the same as the one on the rarity only list front page, except they included the nick sunback PPS and nick blue toxic, which seem to have turned before the archive started recording the changes and definitely need to be considered for this list], does anyone know where there would be a record if any of those pets have dropped to rare between now and then? I haven't found anything so far.
