People are holding onto their newborns in case there are more outcomes.
I still have two rat newborns and I'll only trade one of them once I'm sure it is the same outcome.

This tends to be how most people always do it, even commonly with 2nd stages. If a pet isn't full-grown yet, it always has the chance to split unless we're told otherwise or we've already seen the growths. Heck, even 2nd/3rd gens have the chance to split. It's not common but we have seen it quite a few times in the past. A lot of people either don't trade pets that are still growing or would prefer overpay to do so because if they end up trading away a pet that grows into a pet they now miss, now they also have to search for that one. I'm sure the last rat outcome will be easier to trade for once it grows, that's usually how it tends to work. People just don't want to have to go off and trade for another one if this one turns out to still have 2 outcomes left. :3

It's Dasymutilla asteria, but I don't know the common name for it.

I googled it and it's a Mutillidae aka Velvet ants

It doesn't appear to have a common name, actually. Seems like it's just called a dasymutilla for short.

I don't believe it does. I couldn't find anything about a common name. It's definitely this species of velvet ant though.

Yes, it is a velvet ant. This particular species does not have a common name like the others. Panda Velvet Ant for example. This one doesn't have a name like that. It's a velvet ant, but several wasps are called velvet ants. So, we just refer t it by the scientific name for now.
