What’s wrong with admiring a single pet? Doesn’t that make it even more special? Even if it is commemorating a pet or family member, why have a bunch of them?
Forget the cake thing. Maybe it wasn’t a good example. Let’s say... there are only 10 of this certain pet in existence and you manage to get ALL of them. People are willing to give you actual money for these things and you still refuse even though you have the exact same one sitting right next to it. Seems a bit greedy/selfish.
Again, not trying to start drama. I’m simply trying to understand your mindset for wanting more than one of the exact same pet.It seems like your points are merging? If it's a question of why people would want multiples (and only that) then your whole "10 pets left in the game" scenario wouldn't really be a factor in most cases- though I have heard of people hoarding simply for rarity/demand purposes.
My biggest reason for hoarding is that I like the aesthetics of it- for example, I hoard this litter because I think they all look very pretty lined up together. I know that this especially rings true for some of the people who have mass hoards- sometimes changing the page size to view them all at once (and scroll down) is really satisfying!
I've also seen hoards that work to raise awareness or show support, such as LGBTQ-based pride hoards, or hoards all-pink hoards that raise awareness for breast cancer (just a few examples!) I've also seen hoards that are in remembrance of a family member, pet, friend, etc. Sometimes collecting and having a group to turn to helps in the grieving process.
I've also seen "less-loved" hoards, such as for rats or spiders. It's a cute way to show appreciation to the pets who are otherwise usually neglected or underappreciated.
There are really a ton of reasons that I've come across for hoarding! I'm sure if you search through here, you'll find a ton of examples of meaningful hoards. As for the scenario, that's a matter of opinion. If somebody were to offer real money for a pet (which, it should be mentioned, is against site rules) or other valuable currencies (C$, valuable pets/items, etc.) then it would simply come down to whether or not the person wanted to trade, which is their prerogative. c:
I guess I understand a little more. I still don’t quite get why, but I probably never will. I’ll just stick to admiring my single pets. Thank you all for your time
People who hoard Very rares or URs work just as hard as someone trying to get there dream pet.
