*DISCONTINUED* Rares List Guide (1 March 2019)

Though I don’t have as much “rarity” experience with lists, I’ve picked up a lot.
I agree with Lacuna in a lot of ways.
It somewhat makes sense even though I kind of stink at understanding some lists, but :”).
Honestly it’s very strange to see all the new rarities with the pets & then look at the list. The list probably needs a revamp/ some changes considering the overhaul(obviously because of rarity changes now) but also as it was most likely going off misinformation. For example with the eat me(EM) & drink me(DM) storepets. Before the overhaul both the EM & DM dogs were very rare, but the DM dog was 2 tiers above it. I’m not sure why, but now after the overhaul the EM dog is OMGSR & the DM dog is still VR. This definitely makes me feel more iffy towards lost trading atm, and I’m also wondering how the nons will fare now that they’re all OMGSR. Sorry if this is a bit rambly just trying to put my thoughts/experiences as a fairly non-versed regular CS user in the term of lists.

As a user the most important thing I would want to see is more pets being placed on each tier, and less value assigned to the gap between each tier.

You pointed out the two major issues I've had with the list for a long time and in such a fantastic way. I agree with this every bit as well.

I'll just be glad to actually get fair trades, without having to fear ridiculous inflation and the like. It's really hard to get into list trading when everything is so off balance due to demand and inflation. Hopefully the rarity overhaul helps.

Completely agree with Lacuna and I hope people pay more attention now since you have a colored name + you explained what has been bothering me in a much easier to understand way:

Someone a few years ago during the big Dec 2016/Jan 2017 discussion posted a graph they made with the calculations of the worth of all the List pets in terms of... some Advent tier (think it was mid advents?) and it showed that the value growth of pets on this list is exponential. Not just exponential, actually, but steeply exponential.

Which really makes no sense. I could understand if it was shallowly exponential since CS grew pretty fast in the first few months, but it didn't grow so fast that the July 2008 pets should be worth many, many, many times more than Advent 2008 pets (other than, like, the Sunjewel)...

And exponentials are SCARY--much scarier than most people realize since most people have trouble wrapping their heads around exponentials

With my experience in trading up the list with advents, I completely agree with the idea that the gaps of the list are crazy over the top. For example, no one is gonna pay 21 individual mid advents for a balloon dog as I have been offered two nons for that amount. It is to hard to find stable accuracy with the unreasonably ginormous gaps.

You mean allowing people to freely choose their own gaps? If so, this definitely would benefit the community and make it easier for everyone to trade up and down. The list was only meant to be a guide anyways, the gaps list itself seems to make people believe they must follow that strict chart.

Trading these days is becoming too structured, allowing there to be room for one's own judgement while also being able to see at least a visual idea of "Is this pet rarer than another" (if that makes sense.) may be an excellent idea to allow this "list guide" which has become just about a RULE of trading to be used as it was intended to be.

I'm gonna be honest: The Rares List (and the associated gaps list) is so impossibly intimidating that I don't ever trade for rares list pets. Like...ever. I've been around since 2008, and it's just almost... Well, how to say it...
...The complexity of the list and, more specifically, the gaps list, takes away from the fun of the game. I will support anything that makes it a) easier for all users to understand how to trade for rares list pets and b) is more reflective of each pet's actual rarity, rather than demand.
I'll keep peeking in at this thread (like I'm sure many other users do), but until things get a little bit more hashed out, I'm abstaining from trading.
I appreciate all the discussion and how hard everyone's working on making all of this better! Look forward to seeing further changes as everything moves along.

Yes. Thank you. While I totally agree with everything you said in the post Lacuna I also have felt this. It’s why I’ve been posting so much about having bigger tiers lately too.

Oh my gosh am I so happy to see this list is going to get refreshed. Being from 2008 and an avid trader, when I had a completed collection a long time ago, I did it without the rares list with all the crazy gaps and tiers. Once this list came to be, my trading went into the toilet because so many people take this list as CS’s own bible and they want so much for their pets. I think having the list as a guide is a great thing but the gaps, I feel, really need to be removed or at least toned way down. Granted I have taken huge chunks of time away from this site and I am not near as sharp on trading as I had been, but this list as it is structured now, has made trading really hard and something too tedious for me to have fun with. So in summary, I fully support bigger tiers, I think that will be a great improvement! ^_^
