Again, a massive kudos to the people that actually manage to read all of this. This is the very last part of the story. xD For those who haven't read it before, it's based on a famous play. I'm sorry it's so long, I never intended for it to get this long... x333
EDIT: Added a cast of minor characters at the bottom, including Nalle and his brother, and Limeria and his mad little assistant <3

What kinds of dirty tricks do you think you'd fall to if you realised that your biggest goal was out of reach via fair play? Would you risk it all and turn to foul play? What do those tricks bring you in the end? How do you even answer these questions without having a big impact on everyone else?
This story I am about to tell can be summed up in a variety of different ways. You could describe every single thing in detail. You could say that some people fell in love. Or, you can say that there was a big fuss over absolutely nothing. For in the end, everyone was exactly the same as when the story started...

The sun beat down upon a long, green valley of grass. Wolves milled about in all directions, going about their buisness. At one end of the valley, there was a hill, from where you could watch everything that went on, and what was more, the sun shone there strongest in the noontime. On the hill lay at least twelve wolves, all vibrant colours. Some slept, some ate, and some just lay and chatted. For this was the reunion gathering held by the current alpha of the valley, Nalle. The big wolf himself lay sunning himself next to his brother, waited on by small golden she-wolves carrying freshkill and grapes and other exotic berries. He laughed and joked with his brother for a few minutes more before turning his head lazily to a pretty pink she-wolf sitting under the shade of a single apple tree. She wore roses behind her ears, and more were being added to her tail by another she-wolf with a beautiful coffee brown coat with golden markings. The pink wolf was Nalle's niece, Beatrice, and the other wolf his own daughter, Hoshiyo. The two were very close, and loved to play with eachother as friends do. Their innocence alone was simply beautiful. The chatting stopped abruptly as Beatrice started talking to Hoshiyo; their conversations often tended to be interesting, and the other family members made no secret of the fact they liked to listen.

This time, the topic seemed to be about marriage.
"So who is it you love, Hoshiyo?" Beatrice asked her cousin slyly.
"What do you mean?" Hoshiyo smiled back, oblivious.
"You've had that innocent look plastered on your face all day!" snapped Beatrice. "Your head has been in the clouds! You were hardly listening to everyone's conversations at all!"
"Oh, really?" Hoshiyo blinked, as if coming back to reality. "I-I'm sorry..."
"We all know who she likes!" her father belowed with laughter. "She's been making eyes at my young new warrior, Cyan!"
"The one that finished his training last moon?" chipped in his brother. "A fine young wolf! Very worthy."
Hoshiyo blushed a deep red. She was very shy and hated being put on the spot, but at the sam time she had the guilty smile of defeat playing on her lips.
"Well, I will admit I like him," she gave in. "But Beatrice definately has a thing for Rune!" she countered. "The head of your guard, daddy - you know, Rune!" Everyone burst out laughing. Rune and Beatrice were like fire and ice together; they were always sarcastic to one another, like a love-hate relationship. To even hear speak of them as a pair set the wolves off laughing. Beatrice huffed haughtily.
"He is nothing more than a lot of talk. He talks the talk, but he can't walk the walk. He sickens me, Hoshiyo! You know that."
Hoshiyo and her father both opened their mouths to reply, but before they could say anything, there came the sound of somebody trotting up the hill.

As the family waited expectantly, a small brown wolf leapt up to th top of the hill and onto a large, jutting rock.
"Family of Nalle!" he cried. "The battle with the trespassers is over. We have won the battle!"
A great cheer went up from everyone. Their warriors had won them another great victory. In the morning, a pack of trespassers has tried to attack, but Nalle's group of warriors had gone to face them, and now they were coming back, and according to this message-bringer, they were victorious!
"Sir, has good Rune returned alive from the battles or not?" Beatrice asked him, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, he is returned!" cried the little wolf. "He fought like a lion, so I heard say!"
"Any others worth mentioning?" Nalle asked, glancing at Hoshiyo.
"Aparently, head warrior Oblivion gave much honour to the wolf, Cyan." continued the wolf. "He fought incredibly for a new warrior and has been promoted from junior warrior to a full-fledged warrior!"
A few wolves giggled and Beatrice and one of the servingwolves nudged Hoshiyo, who blushed and smiled with pleasure.
There came the sound of more paws padding up the hill.
"They're coming!" squealed the message-bringing wolf. "They're coming up now!"

At once, everyone leapt to their paws and gathered together; Nalle, his brother, his niece and his daughter at the front. Everyone was eager to see the return of the head warrior. At the top arrived a huge black and red wolf with three tails; the head warrior, Oblivion. Behind him leapt two young wolves, Cyan and Rune, and at least eight other warriors came behind them. Last came three huge warriors, guarding between them the head of the enemy pack, a large grey wolf, and two of his warriors - now prisoners of Nalle's family.
When they came to a halt, another cheer went up from the gathered wolves. Nalle stepped forward to greet Oblivion.
"Welcome back, brave ones!" he smiled, and Oblivion returned the warm welcome with a few words of grateful thanks.
"It is nice to be back!" he smiled. "We have brought with us the only three of the enemy pack still alive. The rest have all been killed."
"A job well done!" congratulated Nalle, glancing at the prisoners.
"Take them away and guard them well," he instructed the warriors surrounding them. "The rest of you, we must celebrate this occasion! We have loads of fresh prey, so the valley shall feast tonight!"
At this announcement, there was a final cheer from everyone, and all the wolves, warriors and family, began heading back down to the valley to let the other valley wolves know of this intended celebration. The only people that stayed on the hill were Rune and Cyan, who were holding back.

"Rune... I have something to tell you." Cyan told his warrior companion urgently. "Please hear me out! I feel I have to tell someone..."
He was interrupted by paws padding back up the hill. It was Beatrice, come to find out why they had not gone down with everyone else.
"Hello, noble Cyan. Hello, fatty." she greeted them with a dip of her head to Cyan only.
"It's too bad you got back alive," she told Rune sarcastically, and he glared.
"This is why I don't love any she-wolves." he snapped to Cyan, who smiled helplessly.
"How happy that must make all the she-wolves!" cried Beatrice, at once. "I pity anyone who you fall in love with. I would rather hear the sounds of war than a wolf tell me that he loves me."
"You have such a sharp tongue." Rune snapped. "You're like a parrot or something - too clever for your own good."
"I'd rather have the voice of a bird than the voice of a beast," retorted Beatrice, at once. Not to be outdone, Rune turned to face her again.
"I wish I could run as fast as your tongue can spit out those awful things you say," he told her, and she merely laughed mockingly.
"Forget it, fatty." she told him. "I came to see why you two had not come, but on second thought, take your time." and with that, she stalked back off down the hill.
"All she-wolves are pests!" spat Rune with contempt.
"T-this may be a bad time to tell you what I wanted to tell you..." smiled Cyan, almost guiltily.
"Oh, don't tell me you're in love." Rune snapped, sarcastically. It turned into an expression of surprise when Cyan nodded.
"Well, yeah... I am..." he smiled helplessly. "I like... I like Hoshiy-"
"What kept you here, so that you didn't follow us down the hill?" interrupted the friendly voice of Obivion, as he, like Beatrice, came back up to see why two of his best warriors had not come with his to start celebrating.
"He is in love!" laughed Rune, scornfully. "With who? Think of how stupid this is! With Hoshiyo, Nalle's shy little daughter!"
"Really? Well, that's great!" Oblivion smiled, turning to Cyan, who had blushed a deep red. "Congratulations, if you love her! The wolf is very worthy - you are a strong warrior, and your heart's in the right place; she's lucky to have an admirer like you."
"Whatever." Rune sighed, giving up. "Everyone's falling in love, these days. Well, I intend to stay single for the rest of my life." and with that, he marched off down the hill to join the celebrations. Cyan and Oblivion smiled and nodded to eachother.
"I'll see what I can do, I'll talk to Nalle for you." Oblivion told Cyan. "Maybe you could really end up as mates!"
Cyan nodded eagerly and thanked the senior warrior, before the two of them followed Rune.

The fire burned bright and warm orange in the night. The celebrations had begun and all of the valley wolves were eating and chatting around the fire, having a good time. There must have been almost one hundred wolves there, all celebrating the return of the brave warriors. In one corner, Beatrice was chatting with Hoshiyo again, being watched by the interested eyes of Nalle. He was interrupted suddenly by Oblivion, who was standing next to him with Cyan.
"Good Nalle, I wish to talk to you." Oblivion addressed the alpha, winking to Cyan. "May we go somewhere private?"
"Of course," smiled down Nalle. He turned briefly to the rest of the wolves. "I will be back soon, my friends!" he called, before going into one of the valley dens with Oblivion and Cyan.
Meanwhile, Nalle's brother watched as Rune approached Hoshiyo and Beatrice. Immeadietly, an arguement flared up between the pink wolf and the young warrior. Other serving wolves and young mother wolves came up with their pups. Nalle's brother grinned to them.
"Shall we try and get Rune and Beatrice to fall in love with eachother?" he laughed quietly, and the other wolves nodded their approval and smiled. This would be a fun new game to play.
"I have news, everyone!" came a sudden bark from Nalle, who emerged from the den. "We will hold a ceremony in three days time in which my Hoshiyo will become mates with young Cyan!"
There was a happy cheer from the audience, and Hoshiyo ran and licked her father in wordless happiness. Truely, it was turning out to be a great celebration that day - it seemed like nothing could go wrong.

The sound of cheering echoed through the corridors as the two guards came back from their break to guard the prisoners.
"What's all that noise?" growled one of the prisoners, one of the smaller two wolves, subordinates of the leader.
"Our alpha, Nalle, has announced a ceremoney for three days time in which his daughter Hoshiyo and young warrior Cyan will become mates." the guard nformed him. "It will be another blow to your pack! You keep suffering losses, while we get happy occasion after happy occasion to celebrate!" the guard smiled pitifully at the prisoners. "Too bad you have to stay here for a lonnnng time." the guard drew away from the angry prisoners and the guard marched on.

"Is there no way for me to take my revenge on Nalle and his family?" cursed the leader of the prisoners when the guards were out of earshot. "I would give anything, ANYTHING TO SEE THEM ALL DEAD!"
"Sir, I think there is a way for us to achieve your goal. Not honestly, my lord, of course." one of his wolves spoke up with a sly smile.
"What is it? Tell me!" raged the leader, turning to the wolf that spoke.
"I have managed to capture the heart of one of the serving-wolves who bring us meals. I know that I can bribe her to let us out - escape is the easy part. But if you can get Oblivion and Nalle to be standing outside Hoshiyo's den in the pitch black night, I can be there with the serving-wolf and we'll lick eachother's fur. Under the shadows, it'll look like little Hoshiyo mating with one of the rebel wolves; she'll be disgraced and exiled, and the Nalle family thrown into shame!"
"It sounds dangerous. What if they don't believe that Hoshiyo is unfaithful and just throw us back into prison?" the leader questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"If we pull this off, though, we might be able to take the valley under our posession. Let's at least attempt it!" urged the other wolf.
As the cheers of the celebration died down, the only sound floating on the night air was the sound of cruel laughter.

Rune padded slowly through the large den, looking for Cyan. He wanted to go hunting with him. He stopped abruptly at the entrance as he saw Cyan walking with Nalle and Oblivion. They were talking in low tones. Rune, however, caught his name mentioned. Curiosity getting the better of him, he hid in the shadows of the den as the three stopped conveniently outside the den, and carried on talking.
"You say Beatrice says she loves Rune?" exclaimed Oblivion, in a surprised voice.
"It's true! Down to the ground, she falls and cries, 'Oh Rune! I love you so much! Why must you cruelly taunt me like this?'" Cyan exclaimed, using elaborate paw and tail gestures to make his point absolutely clear.
"I heard my niece telling Hoshiyo earlier," put in Nalle, loudly. "She's so tormented, not being able to confess, having to live with the fact that if she told him, Rune would just laugh and taunt her!"
The three started padding off again, towards the hunting grounds. Rune stood stock-still in the shadows, taking in everything he had just heard.
In actual fact, this was Nalle's brother's plan in action to trick Rune and Beatrice into loving eachother. As the trio reached the edge of the hunting grounds, out of Rune's earshot, they all fell about laughing.
"I could see his face in the shadows - it looked so shocked!" laughed Cyan, and the other two agreed.
"I'm... tormenting... Beatrice? This cannot be!" exclaimed Rune, his eyes closed in confusion as he tried desperately to make sense of it all. "She loves me? She loves me that much, deep inside? What do I do..." he paced back and forth for a good few minutes before pausing. "Maybe... I should try loving her back..."

Beatrice headed through the hunting grounds near the valley, thoroughly bored. With no celebrations to go to, she had only two options - hunt or sun herself. She didn't let on, but she felt a little lonely, trotting aimlessly through the long grass. She was unaware, however, that three pairs of eyes were watching her. A little way off sat Hoshiyo and two serving-wolves, sitting very still, their eyes fixed on Beatrice.
"Operation pair-Beatrice-with-Rune is about to commence!" giggled Hoshiyo quietly. "Do we all know the plan?"
The two serving-wolves nodded eagerly. As Beatrice changed direction to head back down, they started talking loudly.
"No TRUELY Hoshiyo, she is TOO stubborn!" one of the serving-wolves began, making sure Beatrice could hear them.
"But are you SURE you heard Rune say he LOVED her?" put in the other, hiding her smiles. The trio were, of course, planning to trick Beatrice into loving Rune, via carefully-placed gossip that Beatrice would be able to hear.
"He is in such pain!" Hoshiyo started her part dramatically. "He wishes he could tell Beatrice, but he would rather die heartbroken than die with her mocks and jeers ringing in his ears."
Beatrice had taken the bait. Interested in the conversation about herself, she crept behind a nearby tree to eavesdrop on the conversation - exactly what the other wolves wanted.
"Beatrice is so stubborn, she would never listen to the poor wolf's pleas, even if he was near death!" continued a serving-wolf.
"Yes," Hoshiyo pretended to agree. "She wouldn't even be sad if he died, I'd reckon. It's so sad, but what can we do? The poor wolf will just gradually fade away before our eyes..."
Beatrice stood, shocked, behind the tree, stock still. All her fur prickled with guilt. Hoshiyo winked and nudged the wolves she was with.
"She's taken the bait! Let's get out of here!" she muttered under her breath, and the three wolves rose, and padded off slowly.
Beatrice emerged from the tree.
"How can this be?" she muttered. "He will die... because I am so stubborn?" she let herself leave a long pause before speaking to herself again.
"Maybe... just maybe... I could try loving him back..."

Cyan, Nalle and Oblivion were still rolling around on the grass of the hunting ground, laughing loudly to one another about their prank. A dark shape suddenly loomed up from behind a boulder, looking big and dangerous in the setting sun. The three stopped joking around abruptly and leapt to their feet.
"Who's there?" Oblivion growled warningly.
The shadow emerged without a word - it was the leader of the three prisoners from the enemy pack.
"How did you escape?" threatened Oblivion, taking a step towards the hulking silohette.
"I have risked my life to bring you a great, tragic secret." the wolf whispered, obviously in pain. "Your young daughter, Nalle... she is unfaithful."
"Why would we believe you?" spat Nalle, with contempt.
"Fine, don't. But if you go to Hoshiyo's den tonight, you'll see that I am telling the whole truth." the silohette slunk off, and Oblivion made a move as if to follow. Nalle touched his shoulder and he abruptly stopped.
"Let him go. I want to see if these rumours are true." he growled, though it was unclear who his growl was directed at.
"If she is unfaithful, there is no way I can become her mate." muttered Cyan. "I swear, if she's unfaithful, I'll wait until the day of the mate ceremony and shame her in front of every single one of this valley pack."
"You're crazy!" exclaimed Oblivion. "How can you believe those lies?"
"Well, we'll see, won't we?" growled Nalle, before padding off, flanked by Cyan.
"Oblivion, Cyan, meet me at midnight. We will then see if my Hoshiyo really would do such a terrible thing."

Darkness dropped like a curtain over the now-quiet valley. The three-tailed silohette of lead warrior Oblivion slunk through the tall grass the edged the hunting ground. At the top of the same hill where the reunion had taken place two days before, two more silohettes stood; the tall, wide-shouldered shape of nalle, and the lithe young shape of Cyan. They intended to get to the bottom of these rumours once and for all.
"You're late!" Nalle muttered angrily to Oblivion, who mumbled an apology.
"Let's go. The hour of midnight will pass soon, and we will have missed our oppertunity to uncover the truth. We must go now." prompted Cyan.
Without further discussion, the trio crept down the hill and headed as silently as possible for the group of dens in the corner of the valley, where Hoshiyo's own den was. The three stood stock-still outside the den - they could hear noises. They crept a little closer to the source of the noise, and indeed, it seemed to be coming from Hoshiyo's den. As they tried to see in, the moon sailed out from behind a cloud and lit up the area. Cyan stifled a gasp, for there in the entrance sat two silohettes of wolves, one small, like Hoshiyo, and one huge shape - another wolf, and by the looks of it, a rebel wolf. They were licking eachother's fur, seemingly unaware of the three pairs of shocked eyes watching them, devastated to see that Hoshiyo really was cheating.
Oblivion looked nervously at Cyan. His face was the picture of anger.
"Tomorrow, at the mate ceremony, I will uncover this affair, and she will be shamed." he growled softly, trying to contain his rage, before padding off without waiting for the other two wolves.
Nalle and Oblivion sat stunned for a good few mintues before they eventually left, wordlessly.

It was still only just past midnight when more pawsteps sounded pushing through the grass up to the hill.
"Watch your paws, clumsy! You almost tripped me up!" growled one voice, a young, male voice with lazy, drawling tones.
"Whatever. We need to wait for Limeria and his assistant on top of the hill, so make sure to keep your trap shut. There might be people around." replied another voice, with a sharp, quick tongue.
"Ohh, very scary." mocked the first, as they came to a halt on top of the hill. Almost as soon as they stopped, another figure, a khaki-coloured wolf, came staggering towards them, a little black and red puppy behind him.
"Evening, night patrol leader Limeria," greeted the first wolf. "Where are we patrolling tonight?"
"Unfortunately, that's me, I'm busy tonight." replied the wolf in confusing tones, as if he were slightly mad. "Got business, I have, and puppy too." The puppy scampered up to Limeria in response, but accidentally banged into his behind and fell backwards. Seemingly unabashed, he clambered back up, and leapt all around the three night patrol wolves in an excitable manner.
Limeria poked the second wolf with one paw. He didn't seem to mind, but did raise one wolven eyebrow.
"What do you want me to do, Limeria?" he prompted.
"The patrol tonight, you lead." Limeria nodded, as if he thought he was the cleverest wolf in the world. "I do my business, you lead."
"...Right." the wolf blinked, looking slightly impatient but trying to hide it. Limeria's hyper little puppy assistant bounced all around him as if congratulating him on such an honour.
"If you two little wolfies see any bad wolfies, you've got to catch them, ok?" Limeria continued to nod like a puppet while he spoke. He turned to leave, as if he was done talking. He suddenly turned around, however, and crashed head-first into his assistant, who had bounced after him.
"One thing more, guys!" he laughed, ignoring his assistant who now lay on his back on the floor, little pupps legs flailing helplessly in the air; he was too stumpy to get up.
"Keep a watch on the dens." he nodded. "Since there's the mate ceremony tomorrow, you must keep good look out. Now get going, my good little wolfies!"
And with that, Limeria turned and staggered off, followed by his little assistant, who had somehow managed to get back onto his feet.

The two night patrol wolves padded impatiently around the rows of dens.
"I'm so bored!" muttered the first one. "And how come you get to be leader?"
"You think that's a good thing? Limeria's so crazy I have to do all his work half the time," the second one groaned. They carried on chatting as they approached the clump of dens in the corner. The faint sound of chatting reached their ears, and they froze in place.
"Stop!" muttered one. "I can hear voices over there. Some people are sneaking about."
"Shut up, so I can hear what they're saying!" muttered the other, poking the first in the ribs. The two night patrol wolves fell silent, and listened closely.
Round the corner of the den behind which the two wolves were hiding sat two of the prisoners, the two subordinates who served the leader of the enemy pack.
"Listen! Listen! It was so exciting!" the bigger of the two panted out to his companion. "I've just earned loads of fresh prey and a promotion from the leader!"
"For carrying out the plan?" the second one asked, eyes shining with excitement. "You've got to tell me all about it!"
"You bet I will!" the first one laughed excitedly to his partner. "Tonight, I sat outside Hoshiyo's den with Hoshiyo's serving-wolf! As we sat together, we knew we were being watched by Cyan, Oblivion and Nalle! Obscured by the darkness, all three were convinced that it was Hoshiyo being unfaithful, seeing another wolf!"
"And they didn't suspect a thing? They're so gullible!" crowed the second. "And tomorrow, Cyan's going to shame Hoshiyo in front of everyone who turns up to see them become mates! Nalle's pack will be cast into shame"
The two night patrol wolves looked at eachother, shock showing on both of their faces. They nodded to eachother, both knowing what they must do.
"Stop!" yelled the first. "In the name of our glorious pack, we will now take you as our prisoners!" the two night patrol wolves bounded from their hiding place and leapt onto the two wolves.
As both of the enemy were unprepared and were taken by surprise, it was a quick and easy fight for the duo. They each took a prisoner by the scruff, and led them away, back to the holding den.

"You captured prisoners?" Limeria's voice rang out from outside the holding den, full of surprise, as he recieved the report from his subordinates. "Rest assured I will contact Nalle as soon as possible tomorrow morning!"
The two wolves nodded and left, their job done, to get some rest. Limeria also padded off, towards his own den, waiting for tomorrow.

As the sun rose over a cloudless sky, and heat once again began covering the valley in its golden glow, Nalle was rudely awakened to the sound of someone yelling his name from the entrance of his den.
"Good Nalle, Sir your highness awesome," called the familiar voice of his night patrol leader. He groaned; he was in no mood to listen to long and boring reports after the events of last night. He still could hardly believe it, though there was no doubt in his mind that it was his own daughter he had seen.
"What is it, Limeria?" he asked, grumpily, going to the entrance slowly.
"Sir, suspicious wolves we have captured," he announced in his usual mad way, before counting slowly on his paws like a child. "Umm.... two of them, there was!"
His assistant bounded up to Nalle and began bouncing around him. Nalle pushed the hyper puppy away from him, irritated.
"They need to be judged so you tell us, Nalle Sir highness awesome! What should we do with them?" Limeria persisted, staggering into the den. Nalle, angry now, pushed him back out roughly along with his assistant, who gave a little squeaky bark of alarm.
"DECIDE YOURSELF! I'M IN NO MOOD TO LISTEN TO YOU! JUST LEAVE!" he roared, and Limeria, seemingly satisfied with this response, trundled off to get ready for the ceremony.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, so did the music; the sweet sound of grasswhistles came from the main clearing. Almost all the valley wolves were gathered, and were standing in a wide circular shape. Some had tears in their eyes with happiness, in particular Hoshiyo's mother and Beatrice, though Beatrice tried her best to hide her face behind her paws without anyone noticing. It was customary in these wolves' culture for two wolves who wish to become mates to stand in a circle of wolves and confess their love formally to eachother.
Cyan was already standing in the circle, though far from happy - he looked positively grim, as he still judged Hoshiyo on the events of the night before. The crowd fell silent as Hoshiyo, a rose tucked behind each ear and another tied behind her tail, entered the circle through a gap between two wolves, which promptly closed up again behind her. The ritual had begun.

"I declare to our ancestors above, I have found Cyan and I love him with the entirity of my being," Hoshiyo said slowly, a sy smile on her face. With her confession done, it was Cyan's turn.
He did not speak for a very long time. Hoshiyo began to shuffle nervously, not knowing what was the matter, and some wolves in the circle started muttering to eachother in confusion.
"Well, speak, Cyan," prompted Rune, who was in the circle behind his friend. Cyan furrowed his wolven brows and stared long and hard at Hoshiyo.

"I do not love you."

The was a shocked silence. All ofthe wolves stood back in alarm, their paws clasped over their mouths in horror. What was he talking about?
"I said, I do not love you." he repeated steadily, staring at his lover stonily. "You already HAVE a mate, do you not? One of the prisoners in that dungeon of Cyan's!"
"What on earth do you mean, Cyan?" Rune called out, shocked. "This is not the time for jokes!"
"Oblivion! Uncle! Something is wrong!" called Beatrice to the two older wolves, who were standing, just as grim-faced opposite her in the circle.
"I'm afraid that we must stand and watch." Nalle growled, abruptly.
"I must agreee with Cyan." Oblivion nodded wisely. "Hoshiyo, last night, we saw you with your wolf friend - one of the prisoners we have captured. How could you possibly do such a thing?"
"Goodbye, you sickening mongrel." Cyan growled at Hoshiyo, who was trembling in shock and fear (for of course, she had done no such thing), and looked at her with daggers in his eyes. "I would not become your mate now, you would have to kill me first!"
And with that, he whipped around and broke out of the circle roughly, pushing two or three wolves aside as he did so. Hoshiyo collapsed in a dead faint on the ground, her heart broken and her body shocked to the core. Oblivion followed Cyan, and Nalle turned to go. He looked over his shoulder at his daughter's body.
"I hope you never wake up." he growled, before following the other two. The wolves of the circle, following their alpha's lead, all shot disgusted looks at Hoshiyo's body, before turning and marching off. All that was left were Beatrice, who was sobbing next to her cousin, and Rune, who didn't seem to know quite what to do.

"Umm... Beatrice?" he tried, and she looked up, her eyes bright with tears. "I think your cousin has committed an awful deed..."
"You WOULD say that." Beatrice muttered, though only half-heartedly.
"No!" Rune responded at once. "I... Beatrice, I think... I love you, Beatrice!"
Beatrice turned with surprise, and a smile briefly passed her sad face.
"I think, Rune, that I might just love you back."
"I would do anything for you, anything at all!" Rune enthused, nodding violently. "Ask me anything and I'll do it for you!"
There was a short pause before Beatrice replied, anger flashing in her eyes.
"Kill Cyan."
"...What? What do you mean?" Rune looked horrified and taken aback. "I could never-"
"Will you go back on your word and just leave me here alone, to cry over Hoshiyo's body?" Beatrice demanded angrily, tears welling up again.
There was another pause, and Rune looked sadly down at her.
"Why... do you not like him?" he tried a feeble question.
"Not like him? I HATE HIM!" Beatrice flew into a rage. "He knew ages before this about Hoshiyo was alleged to have done! But even so, he waited until this moment before absolutely ruining her reputation! It's sickening, and if I were his size, I'd fight him! I wouldn't even care if everyone watched! And-"
"Enough Beatrice!" Rune stopped her, a determined look on his face. "I... will kill Cyan for you."

Limeria and his assistant, followed by his men and the two prisoners, entered a small den not far out of thevalley. Limeria had not attended the wedding, but the two night patrol wolves had, and were aware of the situation. In the den sat a large, wise old wolf chewing on some poppyleaves for no apparent reason. The two night patrol wolves carried the two prisoners they had found outside Hoshiyo's den by their scruffs so tight they did not dare move.
"...so, what did you hear these men say?" queried the large, flower-chewing wolf in a very deep, husky voice.
"That they had tricked Cyan into believing his love was secretly mates with one of the prisoners."
"WHAT A TERRIBLE ACT OF CRUELTY!" Limeria added dramatically and loudly, but was ignored by all aside his little assistant, who waggled his stumpy tail at his senior before running to the giant wolf and peering irritatingly into his face. The giant wolf flicked him away like a fly with one giant hind paw, and he was sent tumbling out of the den.
"We must alert Nalle at once," nodded the wise old wolf, and the night patrol nodded, before all leaving slowly, one at a time as to fit through the small entrance.

Cyan, Oblivion and Nalle stood together at the entrance to the valley. Now the whole thing was out of the way, they seemed quite unsure of what they should do next. Cyan was internally fighting a fierce battle against little gut feelings of regret that had begun to worm their way into his mind.
"She betrayed you." he murmered under his breath, trying to satisfy himself. "She betrayed you, she betrayed you..."
"Look!" suddenly said Oblivion, astonished. "Two of the prisoners that escaped!"
All three looked towards a small group of people approaching. The two night patrol wolves were coming along with Limeria and his assistant, still dragging the prisoners with them.
"What are you dragging those men to us for?" asked Nalle, putting on his best superior voice.
"Please let me explain!" one of the prisoners cried, falling at his feet in front of Nalle, his scruff still between tight jaws. "I am guilty of killing your daughter. I pretended that I was her mate, though really it was one of the serving wolves! We made sure you were watching us so you would think that she was guilty! It's my fault!"
"It's not just you fault." muttered Nalle. "We three wolves helped kill her by humiliating her and breaking her heart."
At that moment, angry pawsteps could be heard echoing up to the entrance - it was Rune.
"Cyan!" he barked, fiercely. "I'm here to kill you!"

Cyan just collapsed, tears streaming through his fur.
"Hoshiyo... I killed you! It's my fault!" he sobbed out, turning to look at Rune, who was wearing a surprised face - he had thought Cyan would have been just as proud as before.
"Put away your claws, Rune." Oblivion told him, gently. "There is no need for fighting. The source of the lies revolving around Hoshiyo have been found."
"What could I possibly do to save her?" wailed Cyan, his claws tearing the ground with despair. "She's gone from this world! And it's my own fault!"
"You can't bring my daughter back but you can return honour to my family," Nalle consolled him as best he could.
"How? How?" Cyan asked, urgent eagerness to please Nalle evident in his voice as he got to his paws again.
"My brother has a daughter that has just arrived in the valley on a visit. If you marry her, then we can reclaim the honour and right to rule the pack." Nalle said, and Cyan's face fell for a moment, feeling like he was betraying his late lover all over gain, but it rose again with determination a split second later.
"I'll do it."

The sound of happy wolves laughing together filled the frosty morning air as, in the center of the valley, all of the wolves gathered once again in a circle. The only person in the circle was Nalle, watching and waiting for the mate ceremony to begin. The familiar, sweet sound of grasswhistles filled the air as finally, to the cheers of the circled wolves, Cyan approached the circle, followed by Oblivion. Oblivion stopped outside the circle, and Cyan went in alone, determination etched on his face, though at the same time, hiding his unwillingness. He would become mates to a perfect stranger.
"Where is the wolf who I am to spend my life with?" he almost whispered, only just loud enough to be audible. As the wolves parted, a solitary wolf padded into the circle; Cyan's eyes widened at once.
It was a she-wolf with a beautiful coffee brown coat with golden markings; her innocent face alone the most beautiful thing to any male wolf. But she was not the perfect stranger Cyan had been expecting.

"...Hoshiyo?"

As Cyan recognised the familiar face of his lover, the wolves cheered and cheered until they couldn't hear themselves think. As the two wolves touched noses and twined tails, the circle parted and pushed the unwilling couple of Beatrice and Rune into the center. The wolves fell silent.

"...Do not you love me?" Rune said softly to Beatrice.
"Why no, no more than I did before..." Beatrice trailed off. "What about you?"
"Why no!" Rune laughed. "No more than I did before."
The crowd held its breath. Had Nalle's brother's plan worked? Thier usual sarcasm was there, but only just, swamped in tones of affection. It was obvious that despite this playful talk, another couple were to become mates this evening.
"I'm going to give you a chance," continued Beatrice. "For I was told you were really ill because you couldn't tell me you loved me."
"Oh really?" Rune laughed again. "They told me you were dying of love for me."
The two padded slowly to eachother, and their tails twined together. The crowd cheered once again as the sun gradually set over the beautiful green paradise of Nalle's valley.

What kinds of dirty tricks do you think you'd fall to if you realised that your biggest goal was out of reach via fair play? Would you risk it all and turn to foul play? What do those tricks bring you in the end? How do you even answer these questions without having a big impact on everyone else? In the end, the three prisoners have been locked back into their cell, nothing has been gained from their lies. The answer is simple, my friend; wickedness never pays, and revenge is nothing but a cycle of hatred.
At the beginning of this story, a young coffee she-wolf was in love with a young grey warrior, and a pretty pink she-wolf took delight in teasing a bold valley guard. So, how do you sum up this story? You could describe every single thing in detail. You could say that some people fell in love. Or, you can say that there was a big fuss over absolutely nothing. For now we've reached the end, and it is plainly obvious that the coffee she-wolf still showers love on her handsome warrior, and the pretty pink she-wolf still teases her mate affectionately. Everyone was exactly the same as when the story started.

Ohgosh, I love this pairing to bits. <3 Are you planning to write any kind of story for them? If so, I'd definately read it. xD

Thanks ^-^ I'll probably write a story some time...

By the way, Mura, I think I already said this, but I love that pairing. <3
