I have someone I am trading with who would like a '09 rare for the Alicorn. I am pretty sure that is way too expensive, what would you suggest i counter with that is a little more fair? i'm willing to overpay a bit.

I don't know if it's fair, but it isn't the true date. The original cat was July '08. I am fairly sure it is worth a little less them one from the actual date, but don't take my word for it.

unfair to you. yours is a rerelease date from 2008.
