But I was really looking forward to a beautiful summerish butterfly, especially after spring and winter grew. Those two represent their seasons so beautifully, but why did summer get fire?
Or are they actually based on the four elements and not the four seasons? Earth, air, fire and water?

Nope defineltly seasons. You can see the leaves in all of them. Even summer. It wouldn't make sense for it to be all four elements.

Hm, actually, now I think they could be based on forests rather than the seasons themselves. This is a forest during snow.
This is a happy and healthy forest.
This is a forest fire.
Dunno. I just don't think the burning one would represent summer just because it's hot. And the "spring" one looks a lot more like summer to me. If it was really spring, I think there would be some flowers or something.
I could be wrong, though.

Elements seems to be the more likely answer, especially looking at the outcomes we have.
