You want to auction your high demand August PPS/Raven/Shima? Go for it. You get really nice overpay bids but don't auto them? Entirely your right. I don't mind that.
Here's what I do mind.
When those same people turn around and complain, "Oh, I'm offering fairly for a -insert high demand pet-, but everyone cancels! People are so greedy, it's only a 2012 VR/2010 store pet/09 rare! Why do they cancel my fair trades?"
Because you know why. Because you have auctioned off one of those pets and gotten way better offers than what you were offering. Ones that you didn't even auto. If you know what you can get for those pets, why can't you respect the fact that other people aren't taking your "technically fair" offers because they know they could get way more?
Stop. Being. So. Hypocritical.
Look, there's a difference between demand, greed, and hypocrisy. Demand is what people are willing to pay. And demand does affect trading value - please, please, please for the love of God stop saying it doesn't. Please. I just can't stand people who act like the lists are 100% the law, demand doesn't exist, and they should be able to get a Raven dog for a fair tier swap and how dare people decline their fair offers. No, demand doesn't affect the actual rarity, but it sure as heck affects the value of trading that pet. If a majority of people are willing to offer large overpay for that pet because a bunch of people want it and that's the only way they can get it, then guess what, then said pet is worth more than a regular "fair" trade. If people overpay for a high demand pet that always goes for overpay then, saying "this is what I paid, I want at least this" is reasonable (in most cases; there are exceptions. Saying you paid a high September List for a Shima/August PPS and saying you want at least that is not reasonable).
Greed is knowing that you have a high-demand pet and trying to leach out every possible bit you can get out of it, or expecting offers that are insanely unreasonable. Expecting an above-gap main list pet for your August PPS is pure greed, yes. Now, not autoing an offer of a mid Advent for your August PPS Lion is not greed, it's quite reasonable in my opinion given current demand. Not autoing an offer of a Red Rose for your August PPS Lion is a little greedy, even if you say you "were not expecting those offers", because it's saying that said offer isn't huge enough overpay to be worth an auto. However, it's not the absolute worst thing in the world. It's just the message it sends - because you're implying that you're waiting for someone to offer even more. So please, be aware that when you do that, you do come off as a little greedy, and don't be surprised if people rant about it.
But the last one - the thing that I just really cannot stand - is when people are demand hypocrites. People who complain about not being able to get a very high demand pet for a fair trade, but then when they get a high-demand pet they auction it off and ask for ridiculous overpay. Just, please, don't do this. Don't complain that you can't get a Shima Longtail for a fair trade, then when you do get one, expect high Septembers for it. If you're entitled to the "demand price" of a pet, then don't complain that others expect the "demand price" as well. (That said, I personally think that paying a September List for a Shima is ridiculous, since it's not even a very rare.)
I get called greedy for believing that demand matters. But you will never once see me post on the Trade Rant Thread complaining about how I can't get a Raven/Shima/August PPS for a fair trade. Because I will overpay substantially for those pets. You won't see me complaining about how I can't get a perfectly fair trade down for something like my low demand Cake dog. Because I expect lower prices for them because not very many people want them. I mean doesn't that just make sense? Go ahead, call me greedy, but know that I'm not a hypocrite. I didn't get all my list pets by whining about demand and then auctioning off the high demand pets I get for every bit of ridiculous overpay possible.
Well that ended up quite long but I think that's all I wanted to say? I just really wish people would learn the difference between demand and greed, and also that people would stop being hypocrites. K.
