when I was given the dog on my side of the trade, the person told me it was a re-release. I thought, and may have been incorrectly told, that releases are only on 12/18? The dogs date underneath it is 2011-12-24, but in the archive it shows that I own the pet and in the archive it says that its Jan '09

Yep it is a rerelease. :) The staff made a mistake that year and not enough people adopted the rereleases. Since there weren't very many rereleased pets they allowed a second rerelease on the 24th. That is the only year that was done. :) And it is unfair to you. :)
