This is called "Date Swapping" It was another common practice from back in the day when people knew how to trade...
And another way people could improve their collection.

Someone who had a completed set of pets might find someone else who wasn't as far along with their goals but had a true date of any given valuable pet. They would then offer the person with the true date a swap of their re-release AND an addition of something else as sort of a courtesy thank you for doing the trade. So the person with a lesser collection now had a re-release and the other person had the true date BUT the person with the lesser collection ALSO now had another pet or few pets off their wish list to "Make it worth their while" to trade their true date for a re release.

I've recently gotten one of these "modern date swaps" myself. Someone's asking me to date swap a '12 Snowflake Lion for one of my true dates. But that's all their offering is the swap. Back in the day this person would have had the courtesy to offer me some hoard pets or something small off my Wish List to give me a reason to do the swap. As it is I'm just sitting here shaking my head thinking "Yeah, people really don't know how to trade any more" Nothing against this person, they I am sure have no idea how a date swap is supposed to work. Or at least how it used to work. Sort of like tipping your waiter in a restaurant. It's not required but is common courtesy.

Anyway, I'm off to see who's just sent me a PM and make myself another cup of Earl Grey. ^_^
