I wouldn't accept it if I were them; the card dogs are high demand so are worth a lot, plus it could become a joker, in which case that trade would be monsterously unfair.

That is for sure not fair to you. The hollyfox dog is a high demand high advent, and they don't even have a low advent on there. They would need to add probably at least a yellow/red/blue android level pet to make that trade fair.
