This is a problem I've been having that I've probably ranted about before some time in the past, and it's probably not major enough to really warrant ranting, except it happens SO FREAKIN MUCH it makes me want to pull my HAIR out by the ROOTS.

I hoard butterflies. Specifically, five of the original six butterflies that were available from August 08 to as recently as July 09 if I remember correctly- that's... Bloody hell, that's a full twelve months, AN ENTIRE YEAR. And IF I recall correctly, any one person could adopt like half a dozen of EACH INDIVIDUAL BUTTERFLY, because they all had different caterpillars you could adopt according to your choice! So older players who always adopted the full limit have hoards of the things, and NOBODY WANTS TO TRADE FOR THEM. They get put up in adoption centers and the only people who take them are newbies who showed up AFTER they were discontinued, and people who hoard them, like me!

So regardless of the fact that all of them except the red one are labeled Uncommon, the butterflies are, sadly, practically valueless, at least by my understanding- worth, at most, maybe a little more than the grey 2nd gens. That seems like a pretty reasonable assumption, yes?

Well, unfortunately not. Everywhere I go, people want unreasonable offers for them that vary in ridiculousness, usually in direct proportion to how early on the butterflies were adopted. People who adopted them back in 08 want 08 dogs for them- admittedly, Uncommon ones, but for the love of god who among you would actually trade a queen of hearts or any other uncommon 08 dog for a freakin blue moon or yellow sun butterfly?- and people who got them in 09 will always dive straight for my pretty Uncommon PPS's or even RARES. It drives me absolutely INSANE, especially since, after constantly raiding every adoption center I could find, I'm agonizingly close to completing my hoard.

The most recent event to drive me up the wall: I offered a Common January dog for a red butterfly (the only one of those original five to be labeled Common at the moment)- it was the Tiki dog with the green eyes. I thought that was an okay trade for it- perhaps a little bit unfair to her at the most. But it was one of her wishlist dogs, so I thought it'd be alright. I got a cancel right off the bat, not even an edit. And trying to think it over afterwards now, I'll admit- I'm not really sure if the trade I sent her was fair.

So after this, I'm going to go hit up the "How Much Is This Pet Worth" thread, to try and clear this up once and for all. Maybe I'm de-valuing the butterflies too much. I dunno. But it's still annoying as all heck to get people wanting 08 card dogs for their butterflies just because they were adopted back in 08, even though they were available well into 09. *grumbles*

That does sound like no fun, but you have to understand that all there are are all there will ever be...so...they will get more difficult...
