Getting a lion isn't too hard, if you know what to do.
To get started, choose a lion you want to try to get. Of course, the older and rarer it is, the harder it will be to get.
Once you choose a lion, you need to figure out what it would be worth. I'll explain how you could get a rare lion, but it isn't as easy as trying to get a common lion.
You first want to get yourself a rare (or more, depending on the date and pet)- there are four ways I can think of. You could adopt pets from the adopt page and hope you end up with a rare, but that wont be enough for a rare lion, if you ended up with a rare after the rarities have been given. You also could gather up uncommons, and trade them all for a rare. Don't do this for a really old rare. You can also go to the pound, under 'Adopt', and if you are lucky you might get a rare. The final thing I can think of is to find adoption centers, rare pounds, and giveaways, hosted by players.
Anyway, getting a rare could take awhile.
Next, once you have a fair enough trade for the lion you are trying to get, trade the rares to someone who is willing to trade the lion.

Keep in mind that rarities and dates matter to most people! Be sure to read their trading rules.

I'm pretty new myself, so this is really just how I managed to get a rare. Other people might have better ways to get rares / lions.
