Adopt a Newbie was created by Celozon. Thread coding/layout and the original idea should be credited to them.

    Introduction
    I've heard many older users here on Chicken Smoothie say that they had wished that they had a bit more help when they were a newbie. And I realized we have no newbie adoption program, It would be a lot more helpful for newbies when they first join to have someone help them and show them how to get around on CS. So I have now created this, the Adopt a Newbie program, where older, more knowledgeable users can adopt new members to show and help them around Chicken Smoothie.

    If you have any questions, concerns, comments, or complaints about the thread we would be happy to hear them. You are free to post those on the thread, or PM me or a thread-mod if you are more comfortable with that.

General FAQ:

    This looks so long, do I have to read it all?
    I know it seems like a really long post, but yes. All of this is important. You do only need to read the section that applies to you. If you are a newbie you only need to read the newbie section, if you are an adopter you only need to read the adopter section. But you are encouraged to read everything here, especially the FAQ.

    I've come back from an old account and can't remember how to play, can I still be adopted?
    I've been here a while, but I still need help, can I still be adopted?

    You can be considered a newbie and you're allowed to get an adopter as long as you feel you need help getting around CS. We are here to help anyone who needs it.

    I need help learning rarities, but I've been on CS a while. Can I still be adopted?
    Adopt A Newbie is not here as a rarities or rares list school. It is here to help teach newbies who need help being shown around, this is to help introduce and guide people around CS.

    Can I help out on the thread, or can only mods do that?
    All adopter questions should be left to the thread-mods as we know how the system works. This is to stop misinformation spreading. Everyone is allowed to help out newbies. If a newbie asks a question, you are quite welcome to answer.

    I don't want to spam the thread, so what exactly counts as spam?
    All of this counts as spam; Chatting (How are you, I'm bored, etc.), randomness, non-helpful links, telling us you changed your username, asking to be a mod, saying 'I want to adopt' or 'can I be an adopter' without filling out a form.

NEWBIES

    Newbie FAQ:

    English is my second language and I'm not that good at it.
    On your form put what your first language is. We will try to assign you an adopter who is fluent in both English and your first language and can help you learn English better.

    What if I only need help in a specific area of the site?
    The adopters that apply on the thread are capable of answering most questions about anything you are confused or want to know about, so if you are only interested in one part of the site, that's perfectly ok! Your adopter will, as always, do their best in helping you out.

Welcome to Chicken Smoothie, or 'CS' as people often call it. I made this thread to help you and partner you with someone who will help you around the site. So don't be afraid to post here and ask questions. The CS community is very friendly, and on this thread especially we're a welcoming bunch.

• All newbies are encouraged to check out these links, they are extremely helpful;
    ~CS FAQ
    ~Must-Read Topics
    ~Newbie Guide Index
    ~The fair trade thread should also be one of a newbie's first resources when deciding whether to accept a trade. First go to the Chicken Smoothie Chat part of the forums, and near the top of the topics list you will find a thread titled 'The "Is this a fair trade?" Thread.' Click that, and there will be further instructions on how to use it there.

If you want to be adopted, please copy and paste the form and fill it out correctly. If you're confused, fields can be left blank. Just post this form on this thread, and a mod will assign an adopter to you. That adopter will send you a message.

If you are not contacted by your adopter after a week of being assigned, please let a thread-mod know so we can give you a new adopter. A list of thread mods is posted below.

Adopters

Postby AquilaFuga » Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:04 am

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ADOPTERS
    Newbies understand CS by the people they interact with on CS. You should always be polite, patient, and friendly with your newbie. The point of adopting a newbie is not to answer their questions and then leave, the point is to help them whenever they need it. Make them feel welcome to come and bother you about anything they are confused about.
    • If you act like you don't care then we won't want to entrust a newbie to your care. We will pay attention to how your form is filled out, and if we feel that you will not properly care for an newbie assigned to you, then we can decline your form.
All adopters must have joined CS at least 7 months ago
    • If you are interested in adopting, but are underage, you must read the information the information below as well as the 'Underage Applicant' section where you will be instructed on how to proceed.
All adopters must read all of the below information before applying
    • It is very important that you understand all information on this post and follow all the instructions. If you do not we may decline your form.
Adopter FAQ:
    I changed my username, will you change it on the list?
    No. Username changes do not affect anything as a link to your profile is always included on the list. Users change their names far too often for us to change them each time.
    Am I allowed to apply again? If so, when?
    Whenever you think you can take another newbie on, you are welcome to reapply by posting/quoting your form.
    How fluent do I need to be in a language to put it on my form?
    You will need to be able to explain, if necessary, the entire website and how it works entirely in your chosen language. If you are not comfortable doing this, then do not list a language in your form. Please do not list a language if you will be entirely reliant on Google Translate. Latin can not suitably explain site mechanics, so will not be used to match adopters and newbies.
    I never got to help my newbie.
    I did help my newbie, but only a little bit.
    If after one week you never helped your newbie, not even one question, quote your old form and let us know and you will be put onto the top of the list. If you helped your newbie, even just a little bit, you will have to apply again and be put at the bottom of the list.
    If you do not explicitly state that you did not get to help your newbie, you will be placed at the bottom of the list by default.
    If you do not help your newbie, please do not come back sooner than a week after being assigned. You will not get another newbie until it has been a week.
    Why am I not on the list?
    Why was my form denied?
    If we have a reasonable reason to believe you are not fit to get a newbie, we can turn down your application. You also may not be on the list because we have not updated yet.
    What if I'm going to be inactive for a while?
    If you're going to be away from CS temporarily and don't want to be assigned a newbie in that time, just PM a thread mod and we will make sure you don't get assigned until you return!
    If we see that you have been inactive for at least 2 weeks without notifying us then we will move your name to a separate 'inactive' list, and you won't be assigned a newbie until we see that you are active again.
The Form:
    After posting your form a mod will post here to either accept it, decline it (and tell you why) or let you know if you missed something. Once your form is accepted you will be put on the list when it is updated. At a certain point you will be PMed by a thread-mod saying you were assigned to a newbie.
    Be aware that we have certain expectations for adopters. Your forms should show some time and thought put into it. We feel some people have been taking this too lightly, and as a result have not helped their newbie the way they should have. If your answer to "Why should you be allowed to adopt a newbie?" is only a sentence or two, that does not instil confidence in us and you will probably be declined.
    When posting your form:
  • Do not edit size, color, or bold, italicize, or underline the text. Please leave the text plain so it is easier for our thread-mods to quickly read your form.
  • Do not add unnecessary extras, for the same reason as above.
  • Do not list languages you are not fluent in/cannot speak well enough to help a newbie using only that language.
Code: Select all
Username:
Languages that you are fluent in (besides English):
Have you helped anyone before anywhere on CS? If so, please link to the post/s:
Why should you be allowed to adopt a newbie?:
How often do you get on CS, and how long are you typically online on these days?:
Did you read and understand all of the Adopter information?:
Do you agree to be helpful and polite to your newbie at all times?:
Underage Applicants:
    We recognize that there are some users here who are quite capable of adopting a newbie before they have been on CS for the required time. We are willing to offer a privilege to those who are capable.
    • Do not post your form here, PM it directly to any one of our thread mods.
    • Your form will be evaluated and you will either be accepted and placed on the list in the next thread update, or you will be told that your application was not successful. If you are not accepted, you are welcome to ask for feedback. You can apply again at a later date by sending in a new form via PM, or waiting until your account is old enough and posting on the thread.
    • We will be much stricter on Underage Applicants. If you have only been on a couple of months, you probably will not be accepted. You should show that you have experience by having been in many areas of the forums, and possibly helping answer people's questions.
Permanent Adopters:
    We are extremely grateful to adopters who return multiple times. If you have helped out a few newbies and wish to continue supporting us, you can apply for a permanent place on the list. This means you will automatically be put back at the bottom of the list once you are assigned and won't have to worry about reposting your application form.
    Please note: if we are very low on adopters, permanent adopters are likely to be given a newbie in almost every update or be asked if they can adopt two newbies at once, if required. If you are concerned at any point, please discuss with the thread-mod who assigned you.
    Requirements:
  • You may apply for a permanent place on the list if you have been assigned a newbie at least 3 times.
  • It doesn't matter if you actually got to help those newbies or not, e.g. if your newbie was inactive.
  • You must link to three separate update posts where you were assigned to a newbie by a thread mod. Search for your username or user ID to find these.
  • Underage applicants may also apply. Please post your form on this thread, not through PM.
  • Permanent adopters will be marked on the list by an asterisk*. If you no longer wish to be a permanent adopter, please PM a thread mod.
    Code: Select all
    I want to be a permanent adopter.
    Username:
    Please link to three times you were assigned a newbie:
We are also the ones who answer adopter questions, so please leave those to these people.
Please do not ask us to be a mod. We pick mods out of the people who help out on the thread a lot and are here often. Not just people who ask.
Please do not be scared to message us! We will answer all questions, no matter how stupid you think they are!
The List
Postby AquilaFuga » Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:05 am
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

THE LIST

    These are all the adopters waiting for a newbie. This waiting list is organized in order of application, first to last. So the first person on the list gets the next newbie to sign up, then the second person moves up, and so on. Once an adopter is assigned, they are taken off the list, and everyone moves up one. Once you sign up to be an adopter, your name goes at the bottom. You will then be assigned when you are at the top. The only way you can be put at the top automatically is if you were assigned a newbie and they did not respond or you did not get to help them.

This list is updated to page 156

      Inactive Adopters
    Adopters who reach the top of the list but appear to be inactive/away will be moved here, and will not be assigned until they become active again. Users who have been inactive for 2 months will be removed.
    [if you know you're going to be away from CS for whatever reason and won't be able to help a newbie within that time, just PM me so I know!]

Get to Know Us

Postby AquilaFuga » Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:05 am

GET TO KNOW US

    As mods on this thread we want to make both adopters and newbies feel welcome here. You should never feel afraid to asking a question, even if you think it's stupid, and you should never be intimidated by us. We're just normal users who volunteered to help with the thread! We are not anyone special, we're just like any other member on CS! We have things we like and dislike, and activities we like to do! We have all volunteered to help update adopters, assign newbies, and tend to the thread. We are all very kind and helpful, and we will gladly answer any questions about Adopt A Newbie or CS in general. Below each of us have a bit of info about ourselves just to show you how un-intimidating we are.

AquilaFuga

Hello! I'm Aquila, an English adult working in intelligence/law enforcement. I have a huge love for all things cinema, and am a bit of a film buff. My time on CS is usually spent doing some major forum lurking. Don't hesitate to contact me about anything. I've enjoyed helping out on Adopt a Newbie for several years now, and hopefully there'll be many more to come!

axelandria

Hi! I'm axelandria, but you can call me axel. I'm going to school to study social work, and I do musical theatre! Golden Retrievers are the love of my life. I have been a CS member since 2015, and you can always come to me with any questions, I'm sure I know most of the answers! I love reading, and will often read at least two novels a week. I am currently obsessed with Netflix and YouTube! Feel free to pm me and chat about any of those things!

Burrito Bunny

Hey! I'm Burrito Bunny, but a lot of people shorten it to just Burr! I'm a creative media student in college, pursuing a minor in criminal justice (odd combination, I know). I like to listen to podcasts or long video essays while I draw or work on projects. I've been helping on CS for several years, so if you need anything don't be afraid to reach out!

Hello there!

Thank you for signing up to Adopt a Newbie! You have just been assigned as an adopter. Your newbie is .
Please PM them and let them know you are their adopter.

We hope that you will be able to answer as many of their questions as possible, help them for as long as they need, and direct them to any helpful threads/posts if necessary.

If they do not need any help at all, or do not reply to your first PM after one week, please tell us this by posting on the thread. We can put you at the top of the list in this case.
If you do help them and then wish to adopt another newbie, you will need to re-apply on the thread by quoting your old form or filling in a new one. This will put you at the bottom of the list.

If you have any problems with this then please PM me back. We'd like to sort any issues as quickly as possible so that the newbie can get the help they need.

Thank you!
