Hello & Welcome to .For.The.Win.'s roleplaying guide for newbies
What is roleplaying?
Roleplaying is basically two or more people using characters that they used a form to create to make a story. Roleplaying is like making a story except everyone gets a character and you are all contributing to the story. You will find roleplaying types in the forum. There are five different types of roleplays on Chicken Smoothie. Human Role Plays (Realistic), Human/Humanoid Role Plays (Fantasy & Fandom-based), Animal Roleplays (Realistic), Animal Role Plays (Fantasy and Fandom-based), and 1x1 and Invite-Only Role Plays. Drama, action, adventure, romance, etc is encouraged in most roleplays.
Do's
Roleplays want you to follow Tess's rules which you can find here. When talking in OOC (out of character) you use any of these (), [], {} which are called parenthesis. Use the best grammar and spelling you can. Be nice to others, in OOC. But you can be mean to others characters. Make friends, not enemies, enemies are bad. When your character is speaking use these "blah blah blah". In most roleplays you use third person unless you state your characters' name above everyone of your posts. Third person; Alexis walked into her house and turned on a lamp, plopping down on her couch. First person; I walked into my house and turned and turned on my lamp, plopping down on my couch. BE POLITE, respect is key. Respect mods, and admins and global moderators (their usernames are in different colors). Also respect the person who made the roleplay itself, they have the right to ban you from it (do NOT say anything to make it worse). Admins: the people who own the site/rp (roleplay) also people/person who created it generally. Mods/Global Moderators: Have the rights to ban you/kick you out for a limited time or forever. Always read the rules if there is some. On oekaki, forums, roleplays, basically anything. There are rules to the site, read them so you don't break any of them. ^If rules have a code they typically want you to type it in the other section of the forum unless they say otherwise & they also might state that you need to put it in a certain size, color, place, bold it, underline it, center it, or italicise it, etc. Always use periods/punctuation (.,?!:;). READ THE RP RULES (it will explain much). This may seem a little harsh but, if you are old enough to post on the fourm then you must be thirteen or older, act it. You might want to join roleplays for a while before making one, to see how it's done. If it says sexual orientation in a forum it means straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, etc. Just because you are straight doesn't mean your character has to be, step out of your comfort zone and try something new, it's just roleplaying, it won't change your life. Make friends on CS. Some roleplays want you to make a guy and girl for even genders, do so. Some roleplays may like you to tell when you leave on vacation or for an extended period of time. Fill out the form as completely as you can. Capitalize after you do... dot dot dot & capitolize your I's. Wrong: i went to the store. Right: I went to the store. If you have any questions pm (private message) me.
Do not's
Do not point out other's mistakes, that's rude and can be annoying, unless someone's writing something and is asking you to edit it for mistakes. Do not over use smiley face, I guess one is okay, but not using them at all is better. Don't post twice in a row unless needed, or it's your own roleplay. Do not kill other's characters without the player's permisson. You may not know what power playing/godmodding is so I will tell you. They basically mean the same thing. They meant that you are basically roleplaying someone else's character for them, that is bad. In most roleplays they do not want one of your characters to have a crush on another one of you characters because that's boring and can exclude some people. Don't act dirty, people younger than you can look at this and a lot of people would rather not see it. Do not use your own name to roleplay, that's kind of creepy, referring to yourself, and besides that gives away information. Do not get in fights with people. No text chat (u, plz, etc). No exlamation points; dont do these; What's up!!!!!!!, What's up????????, or What's up!!!!?????. They can be annoying. One is enough, or none at all is good. You may do both though, ex: What?! no more than that though, otherwise it gets repetitive. If you're playing a guy don't make him a cry baby. Don't make cry baby girls either. Don't have your character fall for other characters of yours or a bunch of others. Would it be logical irl (in real life?) if not then don't do it. Don't use all caps, that can get really annoying too. Don't give away information (your real age, where you live, your real name, etc).
Names
Come up with good names, common ones aren't bad but can be boring. Don't make up words, names are okay as long as they aren't like Tsunaminitu or Saefjhawjfjkaw. Really long names are not very good. Capitalize names/if you're referring to them as a name ex: Mom, Dad ("Dad, I need food" not "That's his dad"). Capitalize the first letter in the first word or each sentence always, and names. After names (talking to them, not your own character) put a comma ex: Sarah, I love you. Alex, you need to die. Kesha, your music sucks. Peter is okay. Jack needs to die. Don't use celebrities' names it can be annoying, and not everyone likes that celebrity. Keep things PG-13. There are a bunch of accronyms and words you might not know what mean, if you have questions on them you can pm me, I will be on almost everyday.
Better words/Grammar
Try typing more than a line/short sentence Ex: She walked over there (Over where?). OR "Yeah, you too," She said. (To who..? Moreeee). Try not to continually say a certain word Ex: Said, walked. http://www.Thesaurus.com is your friend not food! :3 Better said: Told, Answered, Replied, Mumbled, Screamed, Murmured, Cried, Called, Yelped, Yowled, Barked, Yelled, etc. Better walked: Padded, Ran (ew), stumbled, paced, stepped, stomped, stroll, gait, hike, trot, sprinted, advance, shuffle, wander, roam, trek, march, saunter, trudge, etc. Use appostrophes even when saying things like freakin (freakin', don't, it's, they're, wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't).
Semi-Literate & Literate roleplays
Semi Literate RP's: Generally want a certain amount of sentences and or good grammar (normally around 2-3 Long sentences). Literate: Paragraphs of typing, descriptive, grammatically correct, I have never joined one but that doesn't mean you can't.
Swearing
Don't swear, hell and some other small thing's are fine anything else star out ex: S*** F*** B****. Sometimes in the rules of a rp it will say that you can swear, some will swear just to star it out, and some don't want you to swear at all.
Choosing the right roleplay
Just because your friend is in a roleplay doesn't mean that roleplay is right for you. Don't join rp's that you don't understand ex: Digimon, pokemon, specific books/movies (unless they say it's fine and explain).
Signatures
I change my username a lot according to my friend, but if you do you should probably put it in your signature. Siggy: Your signature, below your posts, or below your pms.
Art Theft/Pictures
DO NOT use other's art/characters. Real pictures are better, especially your own.
How many roleplays should you join?
Don't join a million roleplays (one-four are good), I learned this the hard way.
There may be more added.
