We are willing to offer a privilege to those who are capable, but have not been on CS a year yet. This is a privilege, not a right. Why should you be able to adopt a newbie?: Honestly, when I first joined ChickenSmoothie, I didn't really understand much of anything. I only adopted a handful of pets for my first couple of months, I accepted terrible trades, and I didn't really look around the forums. I wasn't sure how to roleplay... I really could have used a guide. Throughout the time I've spent on ChickenSmoothie I've learned a lot... and I can't help but think I could be that guide for someone else, who might be just as lost and confused as I was. I can't help but think... maybe I could make someone else's day a little brighter by clearing up confusion promptly; on the help threads, it has taken staff up to two or three days to answer my questions.
How often do you get on CS?: Daily, for at least two hours a day... except on the rare occasion I have a full schedule (I will be able to send a PM to my newbie, informing them of my absence) or the Internet cuts out.

How long do you typically spend on CS each day you get on?: ...Oh, um, awkward; I answered this on 'How often do you get on CS?' So... yeah. At least two hours, usually more.
Do you agree to be helpful and polite to your newbie at all times?: Of course! That's the whole point of applying, yes?

When the line stopped, carrying nothing but soft static to Serina's ears, the woman would (later) swear her heart stopped along with it. But the truth was... her heart did more than just stop; it dropped to the bottom of her stomach, making her grateful she'd skipped lunch, before leaping into her throat and choking her. Voice coming out as a strangled mewl, hoarse and soft as it ripped from her throat, Serina whispered, "Gale? Gale, babe, this isn't funny. Gale!" If her voice raised a few pitches, at that, well... it wasn't as if anyone was there to judge. Fingers shaking, she adjusted the frequency once. Twice. Three times. Four, five, six, seven, eight... Slowly Serina lost count, desperately searching for Gale's voice, full of laughter and life and...

God, how would Serina do anything without Gale to tease her and offer helpful advice and keep her sane? The man wasn't just her tech-partner, wasn't just her boyfriend, wasn't just her best friend... he was her lifeline, the steady rock to her unpredictable fire. Her perfect match and, darn it, if she couldn't find out what happened... No. No, she wasn't going to think about it. Not now.

"Do what you know," Serina whispered to herself, looking around the surrounding area; she and Gale were never far from each other, with the latter always staying in some sort of safe house. Why, then, wasn't he-? Crap. Serina's eyes widened as she recalled their last real conversation over the line:

"Sweetie, I just now realized... I didn't make coffee this morning."
"Really? Gale, you're... Well, you're addicted to that stuff! How'd you manage to forget?"
"I don't actually recall... Perhaps, if this turns out to be a slow day, I'll purchase a mocha from Starbucks."
"Whatever keeps the headaches away, babe."

It had been a slow day... if Gale had left the safe house for a cup of coffee (he had a serious problem, when it came to that particular beverage) he could have been hurt or kidnapped or killed!

Serina sucked in a breath, forcing herself to calm down; she was trained for situations like this. Kind of. Really, there had been a week of training for crisis scenarios, but two days of that were for painless ways to commit suicide, among three she hadn't even bothered to show up; Gale had paid enough attention for the both of them. Well... at least Serina thought she remembered enough to make it through this.

Step One: Kill the Connection. Nope, that wasn't going to happen-- what if Gale tried to message her(1)? Already, Serina could picture the tall, willowy man sneaking away from his captors (probably Starbucks employees!) and trying to message her, desperately attempting to give her a location. Or, maybe he just lost signal, and once it came back... Heck, he could have even just temporarily closed the connection, himself, because some woman was flirting with him at Starbucks and he was trying to let her down gently, instead of having Serina crash the party and declare (far more loudly than would be strictly necessary) Gale was hers and if anyone had a problem with that, she could have Mr. Knife explain to their less-than-impressive faces. You know, by colliding- Never mind.

Okay, moving on, Step Two: Pack all Field Equipment. Well, that might wind up being a little of a hassle. First, Serina dimmed the screen of the black communication device (which reminded her of an iPod, to be perfectly honest) so no light emitted. Next, she clipped it to her belt, allowing a small bout of satisfaction to pass through her as it blended easily with the equally dark fabric of her catsuit. Catsuit... what an ugly term, complete with its own negative connotation; most people's minds sprang to sleazy women, and Serina? Definitely not sleazy. To use her words, "Think Black Widow from that Avengers movie, rather than... whatever else. Did you know Black Widow's outfit is a catsuit? No? Well, there you go." Anyway, after she'd wrapped up her knives and stashed her guns, Serina felt pretty good about all of her materials being out of sight (except for the rifle).

Right then... Step Three: Destroy all Evidence that Cannot be Retrieved. Did people count as evidence? A few Vulcan nerve pinches later (did that one guy seriously need two?) all of the people-- targets-- she'd been assigned to spy on (something about the main guy having too much money to not be suspicious) are knocked out. Serina fakes a gas leak and smiles to herself because, ha, her deft little fingers aren't gonna leave any bruises at all!

Great, okay, got it. So, last but not least, Step Four: Retreat to an Uncompromised Safe-House. Well... that might lead to a couple of complications; if Gale hadn't left the safe-house for coffee and was, in fact, ambushed there... would it be compromised? Slipping out of the building with light footsteps, Serina takes all of the back roads and the rooftops and... Well, all of the weird and unused pathways; walking around with a rifle strapped to your back and more hidden weapons than letters in the alphabet really wasn't something she wanted pedestrians to see. Wriggling through a vent to the safe-house, Serina froze before she actually set the vent-cover down; someone else was in the room. She could hear the breathing.

Placing the vent cover on the metal walkway gingerly, with great care for it not to make a sound, Serina slowly poked her head out just enough to get a good look around. Standing just by the entrance was Mr. Intruder. Now, Mr. Intruder didn't really appear all too impressive; brunette with really short hair, dark eyes, and tan skin. Whatever. It was his weird coat-thing (at least, Serina thought it was a coat... with all those pockets and crap, it could have easily been an alien... or at least an alien hiding somewhere in there) that really made him look suspicious. Seriously, whoa, wasn't wearing something like that illegal?

...Still, as odd as Mr. Intruder was, he was worth interrogating; Gale was in the balance and she could not afford to lose him. Gently weaving the rifle (it was one for snipers; had a scope and a laser... though the latter could be turned off, if necessary) silently from around her torso, Serina gently set it up... and flipped on the laser. The red light shone on the floor before edging up to Mr. Intruder's intruding forehead. It took a moment to find her voice (she didn't usually speak while holding someone at gunpoint) but when she did, she drawled out, "You've got two minutes to explain why you're here before I blow your brain out, Mr. Intruder." Crap, did she say that last part out loud? Well... oh well.

It wasn't as if she'd have to deal with this guy, after this whole fiasco.
