This thread is a log to organize the public updates and announcements on Chicken Smoothie. It is maintained by our staff, and will provide updates and categorize the changes being made to CS.

In addition to archiving the general announcements, this thread will also be used to notify users of some site changes, particularly smaller ones which may not warrant a global announcement/news post of their own. To follow these updates, please bookmark the thread or subscribe to this topic.

This topic was originally compiled on 18 July 2020. It will be updated regularly moving forward. However, keep in mind that some of the smaller updates over the years, and the connections with user suggestions, may have been forgotten.

Site Updates

15 March 2024 - Updates to the pound!

New pound update where pets are gradually released over a minute so you don't have to get to the pound within the first few seconds in order to grab something nice.

16 December 2023 - Item Archive can now be sorted by item category.

1 November 2023 - New account security feature now available!

New security feature where when you log in from a new computer that you haven't used before you receive an email with a 5 digit code you'll need to enter to complete your login.

14 September 2023 - Rarity system update

The rarity system was updated to add four new rarity categories. Pets were redistributed more evenly across all categories. New styles of rarity bar graphics were added.

15 February 2022 - Improvements to item trading

New item trade settings allowing you to require wishlist pets, items, or both. The ability to edit trades when an item is no longer owned by the other player was also added.

28 January 2022 - Trade rules editor now includes BBCode and smiley buttons

BBCode editor buttons and the smilies panel has been added to the trade rules editor.

21 January 2022 - ChickenPaint 2 adds new restyled toolbar icons

ChickenPaint 2 has now been updated with professionally-designed toolbar icons to replace the random mixture of icons and text we had before.

14 July 2021 - ChickenPaint 2 now supports smartphones

Oekaki program ChickenPaint 2 is now updated to be usable on smartphones (especially ones that have a pen available for input).

16 April 2021 - Pet dressup tool should now work on mobile

The pet dressup tool no longer requires users to have to pinch to zoom out in order to make the editor work on mobile.

14 April 2021 - High-contrast text for posts

Accessibility setting available which sets text size to a larger size and removes text color to ensure posts are easy to read.
Board preferences > Edit display settings > High-contrast text for posts

7 April 2021 - Signature Scenes

Mini dress-up scenes which are able to be set as your forum signature, with clickable pets. Includes buttons which can link elements of your profile.

14 March 2021 - Completed Markers in Archive

New option in archive to show if you have collected all the pets from a given month/year. Also works with species and artist filters.

5 March 2021 - Added "Phrase Search"

You can now use quotation marks to search phrases on the forum, along with fixes for other minor search-related bugs.

14 January 2021 - Item Search

Item search feature added to the item collection page and trading page.

15 December 2020 - Wishlist Filtering

New ability to filter your wishlist to display only pets/items you already own. Also includes a new button to remove all of the owned pets/items from your wishlist at once.

12 December 2020 - Improved Oekaki Block

When you block an artist, their oekaki pieces are removed from rotation on the featured section on the home page and the recent oekaki feed. Based on a user suggestion.

23 October 2020 - Token Counter Added to Event Page

A counter displayong the number of tokens a user has collected through banner hunting is now displayed on the event page, taken from a user suggestion.

14 October 2020 - New Dress Up Interface

This update brought many changes to the pet dress up feature, including the ability to flip items horizontally, search items in the pet dress up editor by name, and see how the pet image will be cropped. Partially made from a user suggestion.

03 September 2020 - Trade Notification for Mobile

The new trade notification (1 new) will now appear on the mobile version of CS. This was added based on a user suggestion.

01 September 2020 - New marker for the adopt page

When new pets are made available, an indicator will appear on the forum header. There is also an indicator which appears on each individual species page (available that month) which is cleared once the user opens that page.
Example images and explanation text were added to the Other and Hatchery categories, based on a user suggestion.

25 August 2020 - Login page improved on mobile

Made the login screen fit better on mobile phones, fixed problem where the CAPTCHA would be half cut-off and impossible to solve

01 August 2020 - Improved Block

Changed the way players view blocked profiles, follow up on previous recent block update.

26 July 2020 - New "Recent Oekaki" gallery shows all the latest drawings

New Oekaki board while compiles the most recent drawings from every other forum. Only sorts by newest drawing - not affected by comments.

18 July 2020 - Time Stamps on Trades

User suggestion implemented to mark shared trades with a time stamp, to give more clarity for users assessing trading trends.


17 July 2020 - Players on your block list can no longer post on your topics

User suggestion implemented which prevents blocked players from interacting with your posts and profile in most situations.

02 May 2020 - [Mobile] Display exact time of pet adoption

Continuation of previous update and user suggestion, which allows mobile users to view the pet's exact adoption timestamp by tapping on its adoption date.

23 April 2020 - "Most Popular of All Time" fix

With the Oekaki Board Changes, the "Most Popular of All Time" category was adjusted to pick Oekaki pieces from the new boards.

22 April 2020 - Display exact time of pet adoption

User suggestion implemented which allows players to view the exact timestamp of adoption when scrolling over the pet's adoption date.

22 April 2020 - Resize Signature Preview

User suggestion was implemented. The signature preview size will now match the typical width seen in desktop browsers (739px).

07 April 2020 - New Oekaki Features

New Oekaki features were added so that users could receive notifications for new likes, replies, color-ins, and followers.
When finishing their drawing, a user can now select which board it will appear in.
Drawings which have been locked by a moderator have an image of a lock placed over them.

06 May 2019 - Server time clock added to site footer

Based on a user suggestion, a clock was added to the bottom of the page displaying the server's timezone.

07 April 2019 - Oekaki Followers and Layer Masks

This update made is possible to follow artists on oekaki, giving a player a notification each tine their favorite artists posts a new drawing.
This update added clipping masks, groups, layer thumbnails, and changed the way locking transparency worked.

03 April 2019 - Small update to forum buttons, user page, foe list

Graphic changes to profile and post edit/report interfaces.
Foe list renamed to block list.

21 January 2019 - Small Change to Rarity bar Graphic

Based on a user suggestion, the "very common" rarity bar color was adjusted to be more distinct from the graphic for "common" pets.
A rarity bar for custom pets was added.

11 May 2018 - Site updated to HTTPS

The long anticipated "item pound" was implemented.

09 December 2018 - Store Pets Identified on Pet Page

Store pets are now marked with a C$ tag.
A link with helpful information about store pets was added to the pet profile page of store pets.

25 August 2017 - Updated Site Infrastructure to Allow Emojis

10 June 2016 - Changes to the Pound

The cool down for adopting from the pound was reduced from 24 hours to 3 hours.

06 May 2016 - ChickenPaint has a new Transform Tool

06 April 2016 - Oekaki Now Works on Google Chrome

The program behind Oekaki, called ChibiPaint, lost browser support. Chicken Smoothie rewrote it so it would still be supported on modern browsers. The new version is called Chicken paint.

30 November 2015 - Holiday name Generator

User suggestions collected for a data base of names to be used for a holiday themed pet name generator.

14 October 2015 - Dress Up Challenges

Introduced dress up challenges, which allows users to permanently save a dress up in their dress up gallery, and post it to the forum.

26 June 2015 - Private application system for staff hirings.

09 April 2015 - Changes to Item Categories

Better organization for viewing a player's item collection, including the ability to sort items by Body Area, Species, and Set.

08 October 2014 - Ability to block PMs from people who aren't friends

13 July 2014 - Stamp collections are centered.

29 May 2014 - Send/Edit Trade Page Update

Reworked the page so trade options were clearer.
Added a way to cancel a trade from the edit page.
Pre-made message system for COPPAs to use for trading.

18 February 2014 - Pet Name Generator

Ability for users to randomly generate pet names both from the groups and on the event page.

25 November 2013 - New Oekaki Features

Ability to choose a larger canvas size in Oekaki.
An avatar board in oekaki where you can choose 100x100 pixel canvas.

19 August 2013 - Big Site Update

Website's navigation and forum organization was reworked to shorten index lists.
Added a way to view your item collection outside of trades.
Trial of a larger oekaki canvas size option.
Introduction of the Official Stock Photo Gallery.

17 April 2013 - You Can Now Trade Chicken Dollars

Ability to trade chicken dollars, and the ability to let others make trade offers on your C$.

24 January 2013 - Place Items Behind Pets + mobile support

Items can go all the way behind pets in rearrange mode.
Rearrange mode works for all browsers.
Mobile support for pet dress ups.

17 January 2013 - Item Archive/Wishlist

Addition of an item archive.
Ability to add items to your wishlist.
Ability to filter the pet archive by artist.
Pets on your wishlist say where they are located in the archive.

27 December 2012 - New Rarity Display Options

Added account setting to toggle between the different methods of displaying rarity.

15 December 2012 - Foes cannot send PMs

Default option now prevents foes from being able to send PMs. There is an Account setting to allow it.
Players cannot send PMs to COPPAs, who are unable to read PMs.

03 December 2012 - CS Fan Gallery

A place to submit CS fan art/fiction and have it displayed!
Introduction of the fanant archivist position.

28 October 2012 - Gallery View Option in Oekaki

30 September 2012 - New Oekaki Version Available in All Forums

ChibiPaint V2 available for use in all oekaki forum categories.

10 August 2012 - Updated Pet Rarity

new method of calculating rarity to more evenly distribute pets across different rarity categories.

19 May 2012 - New Help System

Users are able to send help tickets into a centralized location, for more efficient and better response from staff.

29 October 2011 - CS Wiki is Created

CS Wiki collects many of the guides and resources to help players.

09 July 2011 - New Trade Feature

"Pets on your partner's wishlist" will display the group the pet is in. If the group is locked, that information is displayed.
Pets in locked groups are moved to the back of the list.

07 July 2011 - Block Player

Button when viewing a trade to block a player and cancel their trade at the same time.
Blocked players cannot send you trade offers.

11 April 2011 - Item Stacker is Back

Addition of "rearrange mode" which allows players to change the order items are stacked in their dress ups.
Not supported by Internet Explorer.

14 March 2011 - Item Dress Up Organization

While making a dress up, items are sorted into different categories so they are easier to find.

04 April 2010 - Artist Info Displayed in Archive

Archive now displays information about which site artist made each pet.

04 March 2010 - Oekaki Updates

Adds a way to "like" Oekaki drawings. Players can now "color-in" their drawings from any board.

06 February 2010 - Rename Your Own Account

02 January 2010 - New wishlist feature

Gives users the ability to add pets to their wishlist rom the archive. The archive will also now display if you already own a pet via a green checkmark.

06 December 2009 - Change to editable trades

Adds the ability to send a trade as a suggestion, which prevents the trade partner from accepting. Instead they must edit or cancel. The history of the trade (including past edits and messages) are now easily visible. UI improvements.

30 November 2009 - Editable Oekaki Gallery Improvemnt

Arrows added to the color-in section beneath a base. Allows users to scroll through all the colored-in pieces instead of being limited to the most recent 12.

28 November 2009 - Imrovements to Trading Center

Ability to search through completed trades by username. Trades will also now display a summary of how many pets and items are present on each side.

08 October 2009 - Pet rarity display

Pets are assigned a rarity to give players a general understanding of how rare they are while trading.

30 September 2009 - Adopt multiple pets at once

23 August 2009 - New Website

Large website changes took place. This included a new website design, and the addition of the Oekaki program to the site. A "Help" section was also added to give guidance to users and answer frequently asked questions.

To help with the cost of the server, the CS Store was created. Users could buy a new premium currency called Chicken Dollars (C$) and use it to obtain new items from the store.

26 April 2009 - "Friends and foes" trading feature

Players can set groups so that only people on their "friend" list can offer on them. Players who are on your "foe" list are not able to send you trade offers.

01 March 2009 - New Update Box

Better news box on the front page of the website which makes communication faster and easier.

19 January 2009 - Disable trade groups

You can change a pet group's settings so that other players cannot offer trades on those pets anymore. This includes "pets without a group."

18 January 2009 - Display a message to people who send you a trade

Players can use BBCode to set up a page users see before sending them a trade. Often used for displaying Trade Rules.

10 January 2009 - Transparent pet picture backgrounds

Players can set customized background colors on their pet images by changing the URL. This includes transparent images.

25 December 2008 - Dress-up your pets with items

Added the ability to dress up pets with items. Also introduced items to the site.

13 November 2008 - New trading system!

Added a trading center which players could use to exchange their pets with other players. The trading center records and stores trading transactions for future reference.

05 November 2008 - Group your pets together!

Players can now organize the pets on their forum account into groups. Players viewing their pets can now view them as a gallery instead of just a list.

05 October 2008 - Improvments to giving away pets

Adds to ability to accept/decline gifted pets via private message. Also adds a way to display the pet's current owner on the pet image, displayed by "username's pet."

01 October 2008 - Special Characters in Pet Names

Added functionality for special characters when naming pets.

26 September 2008 - Renmae pets

Players can rename the pets attached to their forum account from a link on the pet's information page.

23 September 2008 - Delete pets or give them away

Players can now delete pets off of their accounts, or transfer them to another player.

21 September 2008 - Add pets to your account!

Users can adopt pets and have them associated with their forum account. This allows them to easily store and find the codes. Pets adopted before this point could be manually added to accounts.

17 September 2008 - New Feature on Pet Pages

Pets (which were not yet connected to accounts) will display other pets adopted under the same name.

15 April 2024 - We need your feedback: Bigger, less frequent pound openings?

A call for feedback from the community on whether the pound should increase in size thereby decreasing frequency of openings or to leave it as-is.

14 August 2023 - Proposal to Update the Rarity System

A call for feedback on redistributing pets between existing rarities or adding new rarity categories.

13 June 2020 - Black Lives Matter

Chicken Smoothie announced its support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
A culturally insensitive item from Halloween 2010 was renamed to "Deerskin Outfit" and a trade in was made available for those who no longer wished to own it.

25 March 2020 - Oekaki Board Changes

The Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Sketches and Experiments boards were retired and began to be resorted by moderators. The new categories added were Animals/Creatures, Anthro, Human/Humanoid, Landscape/Scenery, and Objects/Abstract/Other.
The Adoptable Oekaki board was split into Closed Species and Independent Adoptables/One-Offs.

16 March 2020 - Proposal to Change the Oekaki Organization

A call for feedback for removing skill-based Oekaki categories and replacing them with theme based ones.

22 June 2019 - Board Changes

CS Help, Suggestions, and Problems was split into two new boards: Site Suggestions, and Help, Questions & Problems.
Two new art shop boards, Looking for Art and Free Art Offers, were added.
Oekaki Art Shops board, and the sub board Completed Orders, were created.

26 November 2014 - Fennec Fox Update

The fennec foxes created by Shima.Luan were transferred to a new line art.

18 April 2014 - Animal Egg Hour

Animal Egg Hour became available. Users could press a button and for the next hour all of their easter event banners would give them an animal egg. Original concept modified by a user suggestion.

16 April 2014 - Should we have "Animal Egg Hour"

Community vote for if there should be an hour where event banners only gave animal eggs.

14 March 2014 - "Equine Transformation Project" Complete

Staff finished transferring the designs from the old horse line arts onto the ones made by Yulynh.

04 March 2014 - New Zebra Lineart

All zebras were returned to their baby stage and re-grew to show off the new line art.

16 February 2014 - Pet Name Generator Coming

Users asked to submit names that will included in the generator.

29 August 2013 - Equine Transformation - Special PPS Lines

There will be a special lineart for the equimagine PPS horse and pony pets.

19 August 2013 - Big Site Update

Clarifies that scamming needs to involve a deliberate lie, while unfair trades are still allowed.
