I totally agree with locking pets you don't want to trade! I'm really new to trading and have been yelled at for asking for pets from the wrong group. I automatically go to my wish list items to see if they have anything I want and then their wish list to see if I have anything worth offering. Too many times people have "trading for wishlist pets only" but actually they aren't trading them at all.

Most of us keep them there in case someone is offering something we really, really want, but usually there is a group/some group specifically for trades ^^
