That's in America.
In the UK everyone has to attend religious education. Its not to force you into religion, but its to help you learn about everyone's religion and to make an informed desicion about which religion you chose to follow. <'3
I'm taking religious studies for GCSEs, and maybe A levels.

America is all too fridgid about religions. They don't mind spreading a hell load of Christianity about, but they don't want to teach the kids about any other religions.
Sex education is also mandatory for all children from 10+.

Kids can get their periods that early, if I was that young and didn't know what a period was, then saw myself bleeding, I'd think I was dying or seriously ill or something. I think it's a good age to learn it.
