Aha, thank you so much!! And I wish your sister the absolute best; those are challenging fields, but they're incredibly rewarding and fascinating to learn about. I'm glad you enjoy my art!

Will you ever sell posters of your artwork? And do you post artwork anywhere else? I’d love to help support on those too if you’ve got them.

I would really like to sell my art on a site like RedBubble, but I currently have some issues with taxes through these sites that will need to be settled before I can officially publish anything. (ie. RedBubble doesn’t give me a tax form and I don’t want to be arrested by the IRS for furry t-shirt income. Also there are somehow zero resources on the internet can that help me with this.)

Currently, the only other place I post my artwork is my website! I did try another platform called Buzzly a few months ago, but there were some major issues with its staff team, so I’m sticking to my little Neocities site for now. I appreciate your willingness to support me!

I’m mostly into uhh loud stuff and classic rock. David Bowie is always at the top of my list, along with Queen and the other classics. But I’m also very into a lot of 2000s punk/emo stuff, especially Green Day, MCR, and Linkin Park. (I also own a Weezer vinyl, if the rest of this did not make it painfully clear that I am the whitest man alive.) The more I look at the music I enjoy, the more I realize that I have no idea how to actually explain it or give decent suggestions, so here's three hours and forty-two minutes of music to do that for me. I have never heard of starset, but their photos online look cool and I'll definitely give them a listen!

((also i see you have friday i'm in love in that list - i recommend broadside's cover of that song, i feel they did a fantastic job <3)

Sorry for being so late to the party, but very cool of you to do an ama :o I've been checking in with your art for a few years now, seeing a new Hubble painting never fails to put a lil smile on my face. I have a printout of your Jupiter picture hanging on my wall, right next to an old poster of Spacelab 1 I got from an early 80s Nat Geo magazine. If it means anything to you, someone I recently had over thought it was a photograph hahah

I'd like to know what you think the future of space-related science and tech could hold! And if that's too big of a question to answer in one measly little cs post, what are some of your all-time favourite books, films, and games?

Oh, don’t even get me started.

So, my professional aerospace focus is actually in aeronautics, rather than astronautics, so I primarily focus on technology meant for use in Earth’s atmosphere and low-Earth orbit. (And let me tell you, I am stoked for truss-based wing systems!) But nobody wants to hear about that; they want to know about the cool space stuff.

(Let me start out by saying that I absolutely despise SpaceX. A lot. They are not contributing anything to the advancement of the field of aerospace, but are actively hindering it. So I’m not going to even talk about them or their missions. Same for Blue Origin, but they’re already a known joke, so I’m not going to go into it.)

SO! Instead! Let’s talk about Rocket Lab out in New Zealand. Rather than being a private corporation, Rocket Lab is a public, American-owned company. They mainly function as a “satellite bus” company, meaning they use their rockets to launch a lot of small satellites (think CubeSats) all at once. And man, do they have some beautiful rockets. Their Curie engine design is one of the most environmentally-friendly rocket engine designs out there, and I take a lot of inspiration from it in my own research. Their Electron rocket in particular has been a trailblazer in eco-friendly aerospace technology, with its battery-powered engine pumps and electron-beam printed body. The most important thing to focus on in aerospace right now is protecting the planet we’re on, and Rocket Lab is one of the only companies that is being active in its effort to minimize waste without inhibiting their pursuit of advancing public science. We cannot learn about other worlds without keeping this one healthy. There is no other Earth.

Rocket Lab also just caught a whole rocket stage with a helicopter, so that’s. pretty cool.

I think that they have a lot of potential as a company, and I’m definitely looking forward to whatever they have next. I would love to work with some of their engineers at some point. “But, Hubble, I don’t care about that! Tell me about the cool stuff that’s actually going to go to space!” you say. Fine, I say. The Mars rovers are up there doing amazing work every day, and Webb is trying its darnedest to do... something.

I think the upcoming Artemis program has a lot of potential, though there are some issues with administration of it that I won’t be getting into. The SLS is an absolute monster of a rocket, and I’ve been fortunate enough to get up close and see just how massive this thing is. It’s over twice as long as a shuttle, which is what I compare everything to because I really loved the shuttles and I think that international efforts (particularly with former Soviet countries that aided in the engineering of the Buran) would have extended their program and advanced their internal technologies significantly. The SLS is also a very expensive rocket, with each launch costing ~$2 billion USD. But, in combination with the beauty that is the Orion capsule, I think it will do a great job of getting us back to the moon, and potentially to Mars in the future. I really hope we get the chance to see more minorities represented in space through Artemis. Have a female astronaut or an astronaut of color on the moon would be inspiring for a lot of people, and that legacy of spaceflight is a major part of big missions like this.

Now, let’s talk about my sweet baby Rosalind Franklin. No, no, not the brilliant scientist whose work was largely unrecognized in her life. The Mars one.

Previously called ExoMars, Rosalind is planned to be the next rover joining the little party on the red planet. She is the product of collaboration between the ESA and Roscosmos, so the mission has unfortunately been postponed to larger issues. When the program is able to resume, Rosalind will focus on searching for subsurface life signatures, in hopes of learning more about the history of Mars. Mars’s past is our past too, so the contributions made by rovers are very important in advancing out understanding of how planets form and how life comes to be.

Well, you got me started. I could probably say a lot more, but I will restrain myself.

To answer the second question for no reason other than my own desire:

Odd Thomas is by far my favorite book series. Dean Koontz books in general are amazing and he is a master of subtle horror. I also recommend Scott Kelly’s autobiography, Endurance, which tells the story of his year in space and the process of becoming an astronaut and adjusting to life back down on Earth. Moon Walker by Charlie Duke is also a good book, though it has some heavy religious sections and discussion of suicide than may be uncomfortable to read. Charlie is a very cool guy who I have spoken to personally many times, and his book answers a lot of the weird questions people have about life in space. If you are a depressed furry, Beatrice Vine’s The Hunt for Elsewhere will change your life.

As far as movies go, I am sorry to disappoint many by saying that I kind of hate sci-fi. I exclusively watch whatever old horror movies I can find on Tubi. Classic slashers are always very fun.

For game, uh. My Steam library consists of every Half-Life game and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. (Which I only play with ORCT2 because I’m cool.) A Noble Circle is a little mobile game that basically has shaped my entire life since playing it for the first time in, like, 2015? I also play The Sims 3 & 4. 4 kind of sucks as far as gameplay goes, but it’s fun to make houses and download as much CC as my poor laptop can handle. FeralHeart and SpaceEngine are nice to load up every eight months when I remember that I have them. I also like Sonic games but only if I can see Shadow many times.

That was a lot more than I was planning on saying, but I think I said all I wanted to. (‘:
