seek knowledge; anything is knowledge.

Postby Hubble » Mon Apr 25, 2022 3:24 pm

Howdy. I'm trying to break my hiatus, and there's no better way to do that than to let random strangers on the internet ask me questions.

Do you want to know how I do that one cool thing I do in my art? Do you want to ask me for music recs? Do you want me to tell you what I like about your art? Do you want to know what you should eat for lunch tomorrow? Do you want to ask me why I didn't draw my mouth in this picture? Do you want to see pictures of my dog?

Whatever it is, feel free to drop a comment and I'll give you some sort of answer, probably.

what do you like about your art? What do you think of mine? What’s your biggest motivator to draw? What’s the most ‘out-of-character’ thing you’ve drawn?

Alright, the people have spoken. This is Buck. His favorite thing in the whole world is bubbles. I do not grant him bubbles frequently, because he is incredibly skilled in the art of catching bubbles and I feel like that probably isn't very good for him. However, I went to a supermarket this weekend and found a bubble machine. He has never experienced this much joy before.

I get inspiration from a lot of things: Album covers, cool shirts, old paintings, other artists I come across, etc. My biggest tip is to find what you like, decide what you like most about it, and try to incorporate it into your art. Illustration-wise, I find that album covers, book covers, flyers, and posters are great places to start.

That's a hard decision, but it's probably neutron stars! More specifically, pulsars, which are kind of like bright, kind-of-dead neutron stars. They have incredibly regular rotational periods, to the point where they're considered more accurate than atomic clocks, and they're super dense, while only being the size of a small city. I just think they're very cool.

1. I like that my art is unique. I like that people can interpret it in a lot of different ways. I like that it inspires other artists, especially beginners.

2. I really like the aesthetic appeal of your art. You have an amazing grasp on color and lighting, and you're great and creating expressive characters. I'm not big into character art most of the time, but there are a few artists that really stand out in that category, and you're definitely one of them.

3. My biggest motivator to draw is the feeling. My brain goes into a weird mode when I have the time to sit down and just draw for an hour or two, and it feels good.

4. Any image of my fursona's baby. Look at her ohhhh baby kitty ♥♥ aahhh so little baby cat oooh ♥♥♥♥♥

I have 2 questions (hope that's okay)

First off fav planet? Guessing by your name you like astronomy to some degree (?), so fav planet/sky thing.

Second off should I continue to paint my shoes? (That i think i screwed up on)

The part of my brain that likes to look at pretty space pictures is very excited! The part that has been studying aerospace engineering for several years now and is committed to multiple research groups in the field has been absolutely terrified that this thing would not work in the slightest!

In all honesty, though, I think Webb is going to be an amazing tool, and I'm glad she's finally up there. (Hell, I wrote a paper back in 2016 (?) where I said Webb was going to launch within a year. I was very wrong.) Getting some deeper information on super-distant objects and their physics is going to be a huge leap for astronomy.

1. Earth will always be my #1, but I find Saturn to be both beautiful and mysterious. I became extra interested in Saturn with the Cassini mission a few years back. Gas giants are pretty boring at the surface level, but I primarily focus on gases to begin with, so I love these big balls of air.

2. Hell yeah. Always finish what you start. If you screw something up, just keep screwing it up more until it looks cool.
