I spent a lot of time playing with the colours, really I spent only about 30 minutes doing the tree and the leaves. Rest was colouring and deciding what in the world I was going to do with the background.
The tree trunk started off black, then I accidentally turned it yellow, but I ended up liking it yellow, so I kept it like that for a while. I tried some failed shading on the yellow trunk and after playing with the shading for a while I kept it that way. Then I moved onto the background, I won't even start on that. And after around 15 minutes of doing that I turned the trunk back to black. Then I got the idea of splitting it down the middle and that happened
The tree's "deeper meaning" or whatever is basically life and death, the trunk being dead but the leaves still seem like they're alive. Trunk = mother. Leaves = children... whatever.
Still haven't figured out what inspired me to draw this, but I extremely like how it turned out
