2. Adjusting to the new home.

Postby GhiraWar » Sun Aug 09, 2015 2:37 pm

I excitedly observed the wild stallion bucking and whinnying in the round pen, wondering how he is not completely going crazy yet. He has been here for barely a day, and he is much calmer. The beautiful stallion pricks his elegant ears up and looks at me, his electric blue eyes x-raying my soul and mind. He narrows his eyes at me, his tail swishing. He was sizing me up! Thinking about me! I felt as if I were being studied in front of a teacher, them watching my moves to complete the test in time, only to get the grade the next day. The stallion nods to himself and starts bucking again; kicking at the white fence. My heartbeat quickens considerably as I watched him. He was like me inside; wanting to be free. 'I'll save you,' I thought to him.

♥ 3. -Introduction of the halter.

It has been three weeks since the stallion, who I have dubbed "Legend", has arrived, and in those three weeks I have gotten enough trust out of him to pet him everywhere. Legend pricks his ears at my arrival and neighs softly, walking over. That was the first time he had ever approached me in a peaceful, fun way! I pet his nose, grinning. "Hello, beautiful," I murmur and kiss his cheek. He nickers quietly and nips at my hand, then trots away, his tail high in the air. He could see the halter behind my back- a gorgeous blue one with a white lightning strike on one part- and he was suspicious of me. "It's just a halter," I assure him and walk over slowly, the halter held low. Legend eyes it, then squeals and runs away, bucking. I sigh and wait for him to calm down before walking over, letting him sniff it. He nudges it, then bites it. When it does not move, he relaxes considerably and I start to put it on. Before I know it, a light bite was placed on my arm, near my elbow. I should know better! I mentally scold myself and rub at the mark, before trying again. After many times and a few almost-bites, the halter was on, but not buckled. I was proud of myself, and Legend, too.

♥ 4. -Meeting a friend.

Legend pins his ears back as I enter the round pen with Max-my German Shepherd- at my side. Legend's glare is demanding almost angrily, "Who is this?! Am I not good enough for you?" I sigh and murmur to him that he was alright and he wouldn't be hurt or anything. Max curiously gazes at Legend, before walking forward. "Make friends," I tell Legend, who sighs and lowers his head to sniff at Max. Max woofs softly and licks Legend's nose, his tail wagging. Legend backs away and goes to eat some hay, having more than enough new experiences for today. Max whines and bites at his tail, earning a "No, Max!" from me. Max glowers at me, then leaves the pen.

♥ 5. -Gaining your horse's trust.

Legend was still suspicious and didn't trust me a lot, but I hope to change that. Every day, I bring him apples and carrots and some TLC. He seems to like that, and I'm thrilled! He's now lipping my hair affectionately and nudging my hands every time I walk in to the round pen. A few days later, however, he just looks at me, then walks away with his ears down. My heart immediately drops to my stomach. "What's wrong?" I ask, making my way into his field of vision. He just stares at me, almost with a sad look. It seriously makes me feel so bad that I didn't know what was wrong with him. Legend sighs and rests his head on my shoulder, and I stroke his neck slowly. He suddenly backs away and sniffs at my pocket, then looks at me with pleading eyes. He only wanted a treat? I raise my eyebrows and say, "Do that again and you're never getting another treat," before offering him the sugar cube from my pocket. Now that he had got what he wanted, he trots away, neighing and being a proud stallion again.
