if you want to do fullbodies you can try rotating the canvas 90 degrees. in the toolbar there should be a rotating tool, and if you rotate it to be portrait it will post the drawing as portrait.

When I make lined art, I start out by creating a layer to sketch on and sketch. Then I make another layer and do lines. Then I put a layer in between and do base colors, and then I create a layer above that one with the modifier Overlay and use light gray to do highlights and dark gray for shadows.
Also, use real life references EVEN IF YOU'RE DRAWING CARTOONS. Just trust me, once you know the regular anatomy you'll be a lot better. Hope this helps, and the best of luck to you!
