I'm in no way a pro at hair. But i thought i'd just add what I've learnt. Hair isn't easy to learn, i'd recommend doing life drawing/reference drawing of people every now and then to learn. It really helps. Also, trace over pictures of faces+hair, thats a quick way of learning. (Do a specific type of hair, say side part like i tried, copy a few different references of that hair in varying positions/angles, and after you'll find yourself a pro at it when you try on your own!)

What is the style of hair? Where will the parting be? This is the entire shape of the hair, and important to know, so you can base the flow of the hair from one spot. Here is a picture of different partings: http://d25ibc27l7tegw.cloudfront.net/wp ... jpg?7e968c
Thick hair, and voluminous hair will always raise so to speak at the base, then like gravity will bring it down and straighter, hard to explain, but looking at pictures you can see this natural flow of hair.

How will it flow? It is straight, wavy, curly? How long it is? Will it sit/rest on your shoulders? Long hair will get caught on clothing/ur body

i just saw this! this is really helpful actually, i can tell i'll reference this a lot. i really appreciate you doing this.
the tracing idea for practice is a good one, i'd never thought of that until you said it.
