me and my friend baked a rainbow cake (hu-rrrrrray) on the weekend, and it's been sitting till today, yesterday my dad wanted a slice, but it wasn't decorated yet, so i told him i'd decorate it tomorrow then he could have some then. so today i decorated with fondant, first time making/using
what happened:
everything went smoothly, add gelation to water, microwave, add corn syrup, stir until fully blended and add to icing sugar. where i went wrong is the kneading, i did NOT add enough sugar so it was really sticky, and did NOT put shorting on my hands, 1+1= disaster, i stick my into the icing and i hear "squ-wiiiish" and then i could barely lift my hands out of the bowl. have you ever gotten marshmallow on your fingers, you know how hard that is to get off? time that by ten. it took five minutes at least to get most of it off, i still have like a 1/5 of the batch still firmly attached to my hands, it took another five minutes and a lot of soap to get it off my hands. after that i added more sugar and put shortening on my fingers, it seemed to work, cake still looked like a fail
this (for me) was a fairly bad fail, the only one worse that happened this year was presenting my friend the first fish she ever caught, and it flipped out of my hands and on to her, the only thing that made it worse was i did it again
