I play as Pikachu, but occasionally as Wario too. xD
My brother liked to play as a few people, I believe mostly Falco. And my cousins like Olimar and R.O.B. x3
I actually know a lot of people who play, but a lot of them were my brother's friends and/or neighbors/cousins.
(I do admit I am rather good at the game. eue)
