Matthew (left) is basically using Luna as a cover up for his secret homosexuality, unbeknownst to everyone, including her. He genuinely likes her, but he naturally has difficulty trying to love her. Their relationship basically consists of a lot of Luna yelling, whining, pouting, slapping and generally abusing him. And of course spending his money on shoes, just like any good girlfriend would. Matthew, who is quite different from the typical blob of 'moe cute shyness' that he is to most fangirls, plays the role of the mildly depressed loser constantly suffering abuse from those with more self confidence...
So...not really a super Sue-ish relationship...
