Take the X- out of Christmas

Postby Equid Phantasm » Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:52 pm

Twas the week before Christmas and all through the site,
Equid Phantasm was stirring but not out of fright.
She's angry, upset and puttin' up quite a fight,
'Cuz replacing Christ with an X- simply just isn't right.

Edit: Please read the first page, listen to Hekomi and critique/comment the art. People are ignoring Hekomi and that is disrespectful to Hekomi. Hekomi has been very kind and tried to get people to post art critiques, not debates. I'm upset that people are ignoring Hoekami. If it continues, I will take this art down voluntarily, not because of the debaters or any of their opinions, but out of respect for the moderators and CS If you have a comment about the X-, then feel free to PM me instead or create a forum like one person supporting me wants me to do. The oekaki is for art critiques, not religious debates. Thank you in advance, sorry about causing such a stir CS.

And to the person who sent hate-mail by PM, it doesn't bother me, so your tirade only helped you feel better about yourself, you're welcome. :D

Look at it this way, would anyone say "Happy X-ukkah (Jewish-Hanukkah) or Happy X-ban (Wiccan) or Happy X-jra (Islam Al-Jisra) or Happy X-year... or even don" X-" t (don't) or it "x-"s (it's)... we use apostrophe's everywhere else... you get the picture, in our language we don't abbreviate anything but Christmas with an X-. The word Christmas is the only place I know of that uses X instead of the word or an apostrophe.

Please do not take this offensively people of other religions, I am just making a point about the abbreviation. I don't usually do art like this, but I'm seeing way too much of using X-mas instead of Christmas. The terminology is Christmas and we do not need to abbreviate Christ with an X- If you want to say Merry Christmas, then say it, spell it out even if you have to make it smaller.

Merry Christmas All and to all a good night.

Equid Phantasm

I am editing, I forgot the stocking cap. Finished it. Edit: ears, thank you for the critique.

I strongly disagree with you. I love writing Merry X-Mas, but I don't say Merry X-Mas to people in real life. And the way you put Christ in bigger letters is reminding me of some of my neighbors =| I understand you're not trying to be the Christian bible-thumper type, but this is religion related since Christ is part of a religion. Also, when you're explaning the religions thing for the X-, it just kept me thinking "They're never going to be called that." If you had not put Christ in bigger letters than mas than I might have not been posting this, but I just find it leaning towards religion matters and that people will be flaming about it, people will be agreeing with what you say and disagreeing.
Before you reply I am going to ask are you going to be next talking about how it's "Merry Christmas" not "Happy Christmas"?

Hello everyone.
Due to my inactivity on this account and how I've gotten far behind on everything I'm moving accounts and transferring all pets I want to keep over to the new account to start new, but keep some of the old. Please note that I'm leaving a lot of pets behind that I do not want and they will all be free, but I will only check this account every now and then for trades.

- Thank You.

If you believe that Christ should not be replaced by X-, then post it in your signature, fight the unwanted and upsetting use of the abbreviation X- for Christ.

Look at it this way, would anyone say "Happy X-kkah (Jewish-Hanukkah) or Happy X-pur (also Jewish - Yom Kippur) or Happy X-ban (Wiccan) or Happy X-jra (Islam Al-Jisra) or even Happy 'X-dhi Day (Buddha - Bodhi Day... you get the picture, we don't abbreviate anything but Christmas with an X-. Why? Don't take Christ out of Christmas.

Merry Christmas All and to all a good night.

Just so you know, the letters are exactly the same size as the others, I just capitalized them, thank you. They are the same size as I for example. I used capitalization for emphasis on the word, not the religion and your comment about "Happy" versus "Merry" is mute because well, neither are abbreviated H- or M- or X-and either of the adjectives work fine.

While I do strongly agree with you, I do have to admit that you aren't supposed to post religious stuff...However, Christmas IS a religios holiday, so I don't understand why we're allowed to celebrate it on CS, because some people don't celebrate... I'm so confused right now... I'm just going to say I agree, and end it right there...

I'm confused too because I see all kinds of religion and even sexual orientation promotion in People's signatures all the time and such but like I said before, it wasn't me promoting Christianity, I'm just pointing out the fact that I'm tired of people abbreviating Christ with X. Usually the letter X is a bad thing... something like a BAN mark or censorship to me anyhow. Thanks for understanding and again, it's not about the religion, it's about the use of the abbreviation. What do you do when you're trying to sign something to someone.. you cross your index fingers in an X... saying in sign language type motion (Sorry, I don't know if that's an official sign language sign or not) that you want them to stop it.

If CS wants me to modify it, I will do so. I don't want a warning issued, so if they want me to remove it, please, CS, tell me to do so and I will.

I say both(Christmas and X mas), I could care less if people judge me because of my opinion, its just how I am. Everyone's entitled to their opinion though, so i find it sort of rude when someone challenges another's opinion with their own, and shoves it down their throat, Im not saying you are though, but im sure its bound to happen to someone...
And guys, you should stay on topic and Comment about the art, otherwise this may soon get locked :P

I love how you drew the horse <3 this picture will defiantly start up quite a few conversations ^^'

I totally agree. People for years have been taking Christ out if Christmas, like inventing Santa Clause, and making it all about presents. Its all about Christ and his gift to us.

Do you know where the "X" originated from?
It comes from the Chi Rho, this symbol.
Chi Rho is Greek for Christ, and the symbol represents the same.
X-mas is literally just an abbreviation for Christmas, it's like writing AKC instead of American Kennel Club. It really isn't to demean the holiday in anyway.
The picture is gorgeous though, I quite love it.
