Is it worth getting one? I've been wondering whether or not I should, or if it's just not as big a deal as some people think. You know, that "All that glitters is not gold" kinda thing.

Ah, I've found it worthwhile. All the artists and art tutorials/resources that you'll find definitely help. It's the real motherload concerning that sort of stuff. You just have to find the right people.
On the other hand, the site is so big, it's difficult to gain exposure yourself. I think though, there are enough people from CS who recognize "their own" to get a good start with that.
Also, you have to learn to ignore the suggestive images and downright crude content some people post. =P It's a big world site-wise. That was the main reason, aside from my wariness of art theft in huge sites like dA, that I put off getting an account for so long.

Thing is, I dealt with art theft on dA before I had an account there, so I was somewhat more empowered being a member with the ability to report and communicate with mods directly than I was before when my methods of getting the stolen work removed without an account.
