I was there...

Postby .Coyote » Mon Aug 29, 2011 5:53 pm

References Used: Google Image Search Engine (I looked at the mess of pictures to decide what colors to use. No image in particular.)

I was there when it was brand new.
When there was nothing there but the grass and the dew.
I was there when the trees started out,
To watch them grow from the trunk out
Tall above the Earth, they grew.
And under their branches the animals flew.
The foxes would yip out for a song,
For a time that had been past along.
Stories of leaders, of fighters,
Of very big dreamers.
Of wise old owls, and brave young deer,
And tall mountains that grew near.
Of wolf fights, and bad nights
When the wild winds blew
Like the tempests surging in a sky of blue.
All things that they wanted to hear,
All things I told them while they stayed near.
Because I was there for it all.
When one day they came with their fire
and blade, to see what a gain could be made.
Through the forest they trampled, killing anything underfoot.
They drove all away without giving me a second look,
A chance to say goodbye to those who were wise enough to hear me.
To those who were wise enough to believe.
But then started fires, and the chopping of wood.
I watched knowing there was nothing I could
do to save them from this blight.
And still when I yelled out every night,
Those humans never heard a word
I said. Their ears were closed to any natural words.
Take me, do not leave me when you go!
Do not leave me to know
The sorrows of being all alone.
And yet here I stand, here I stand
after all of them left, here I stand.
I was there to watch it fall
I was there for it all

It has been a long time since someone could hear me. I used to always recieve visitors of all sizes who would come to listen to the way life here used to be. They loved to sit and listen to the stories, and I often had squirrels and birds living in my branches just so that they may not miss even one story. This area used to be a big forest, as far out as I can see. That river over there was then only a stream that trickled between the trees. The sounds it made were magical, as the water ran through the stones left behind by some ancient rock formation. But now... Now the trees are gone, now the polished stones have been taken away. Man came here many years ago. I was there. They started with the trees, tearing them down with weapons that's attacks were sounded as thumping echos through the woods. And they just kept taking. Many of the animals were killed or had to flee from their hunting and the fires they left unattended. As they all ran, as the humans took everything they could, even the stones out of the stream, they left me there. And then all was silent. Slowly animals began to wander back into the area, but it hasn't been the same. They did not know my secret, did not know that they could learn so much from me; if only they would listen. But much like the humans were, they would not stand still long enough to hear me. But... But you have come, two enemies, to hear my stories once again. I am over joyed that some one has finally returned to me, to hear my tales. Would you like to hear of the time that a bear came into the wood, a long time ago...

We are only searching for one or two good role players. This is not first come, first serve, though. We want good devoted role players with creativity and writing skill.

The year is 1807, in the sprawling England city of (). Shouting, always there is shouting in the streets around you of sin and the consequences for those who dare to partake in it. In a city this large crime is a common subject at every workplace and every dinner table, because there is simply no escaping it. Theft is a constant problem in a time where the few had everything and the populace had no coin in their pockets and no food for the table. The constant fear of murder, though not so often as a pickpocket, kept many hiding in their homes and churches just hoping for a better day. Blasphemy was punished greatly, and religions changed so often in England that no one could be sure whether they would be safe in their believes or they would be next to hang.

But no crime, no sin was so hated and feared as the use of magic. Just mentioning it was often enough to have you dragged in for some quality time with a cold stone floor and iron shackles. For generation upon generation people were taught of the sins of magic, and the link required with Satan himself to be able to harness it. This ideal was so well forced upon man kind that they believed it with all their mind and heart; and with plenty of fear for their souls. Humans that are found using magic are hunted for the rest of their lives and forced to endure ritual tortures to drive the 'demons' from their bodies. Those who are more lucky are killed on the spot. The magical creatures themselves , like the elves and werewolves, have no luck at all. Those who hunt them are respected highly for keeping their city safe, and live like nobles. They must be of the highest caliber, the strongest of mind and body to be able to have a chance against these sinners of God. Though rarely part of the city's military force, they have the same leniency in the law; able to go in and out of any house the choose and being able to turn even a duke's home into a strong hold if need be. All resources are open to them, anything needed can be taken.

It is here in this volatile city that you now stand; surrounded by danger, by death and by desperate hope for better days. In a place where nothing seems to grow, where the sun and the moon are constantly hidden from view by a thick layer of clouds. Where all dreams and aspirations are a distant memory compared to the turmoil you face now. Be careful, stay alive and away from magic, and you might just be lucky enough to enjoy the city life you always dreamed of. Maybe.

RULES

--- All of the rules of conduct on CS forums apply here as they do everywhere else.
--- As well as the very basic rules, such as not god moding or power playing or killing off anyone's characters without their permission or any of that sort of nonsense. If you aren't sure what those are, look here. Which, incidentally, is also a CS rule page.
--- Leaving for Dead, a rule on there that states not to continue role playing for pages with just two people, is not a rule that applies to this one. It is perfectly acceptable to do that here.
--- You may see some cursing and minor adult themes such as alcoholism here, so if you do not like to see such things I highly suggest you do not join.
--- Before you start interacting with someone on the role play I highly suggest you read their character's forms carefully. It isn't like all of these people are starting here brand new to this city, so it is likely that they would have heard of each other or each other's reputations or something beforehand and that needs to be taken into account.
--- Also something of a common sense thing that I should have put up there a little higher in the list, do not join only to disappear after a post or two. If you are going to be gone for a few days up to a few weeks or so, please please tell us. If you are gone longer than two weeks without notice you will be removed from the role play. We want active role players, not people who are just going to be around a page or two and then split
--- This is a semi-lit role play, by the way, so posts should be one or two good solid paragraphs, not one or two lines. On that note, though, please remember that this is a role play and not your chance to write a short story; so don't go over five paragraphs or so.
--- These characters must be of your own creation. So you cannot use photographs to describe them, nor can you use someone else's drawings to depict them with. They must be of YOUR own unique design, not stolen off of a celebrity or what is basically art theft. Do not worry if you don't have a drawn picture of your characters. A well written description will work just fine, and is preferred over any pretty picture you can steal off the internet.
--- When creating your characters, please take into consideration the types and amount already there. Creatures, such as demons and elves, are very rare in this role play; so if there are already a few of them do not create more.
--- Please remember that this is set in the early 1800s, and your characters must reflect the times. Girls will not be running around in mini skirts and no one will be carrying around rocket launchers. Their dress should also reflect the time, but can be more imaginative.
--- Your characters, if magical, can use one type of element magic, but they can only use ONE. Someone who can use water cannot also use fire and shadow magic. How you as the player interoperate the element of your choice in new and interesting ways is up to you. Be creative and have fun with it. Try to keep the elements even, though, with the exception of lightning, light and shadow. Lightning is more uncommon than the base four, and light and shadow are pretty rare.
--- Persons or creatures with magic can also have an animal form. It is not usually a powerful or large animal, but there can be some. It isn't as common for magic users to have an animal form, as it takes a good deal of mana to uphold. It cannot be used for long periods of time, and is usually used only for escaping from dangerous situations.
--- These characters also shouldn't be 'perfect'. Those with great power or strength should also have great weakness in some way. Someone can be very smart and strong, but then have no magic to defend themselves with. Or maybe they have great magic but a weak mind. Character flaws are very interesting; perfect characters are not.
--- You can create as many characters as you can handle, so have at it.
--- Please be descriptive with your characters. Anything that people in the city should already know about them should be included. Any rumors spreading about them, past crimes that would be put on wanted posters, their high standing with high society. Everything.

It is very important that you put a lot of thought into your characters. I cannot stress that enough. They can be as crazy and wild and just as far from ordinary as you can go. Ordinary characters are pretty mundane and don't really hold anyone's interest for long. Include fun details and give them strange quirks. I mean, just imagine a real human, and how many different little mannerisms they have and all the things that make them the way they are. And then you add in the fiction of all of this and have some very interesting characters.

The elements are:

Fire
Water
Wind
Earth
Lightning
Light
and Shadow

Fire, water, wind and earth are the base elements, and are more common.
Lightning is not so common;
and light and shadow a pretty rare. Many light magic users become healers.

The magic exists through something called mana. It is like adrenaline, like an energy within the body, following channels like blood. But it isn't tangible, so it cannot be released through a cut or anything. Mana makes magic users more energized, more alert and quicker to heal. But it can run out, leaving you unconscious or dead. Mana is constantly recharging. Mana is best released through the hands, and most are only capable of using magic with their hands. Some can use items to chanel their magic, like lightning through a metal rod. Magic users are also resistant to their element in a natural setting. Like a fire magic user cannot be burned by fire started by flint and steel, but they can be burned by another magician's fire. They can also only manipulate a natural source of their element. Only magic users with the light element can penetrate other's with magic positively, which enables them to heal. Anyone else who tries just kills the person.

I guess... But do you think that the roots going out of the back of the tree are too long/thick? Or maybe I should just get rid of them...

I am considering other animals as well, maybe more wolves or a deer or something.
