The only reason why I haven't left out or created a new account is because I spent WAY too much time into my horses and into my BM items. [Which, I did earn WITHOUT passes. It is possible if you work hard at it, you know.]
Downsides of Howrse;
Anyway, what is the point for us normal players to spend days training our horses? Its not like we're going to get anywhere when people who are able to pay can make their horse better in an instant with only a twenty dollar bill. I'm afraid Howrse is one of the games where the "Free" version is available for the members who don't spend money on pixels, while all the good stuff are kept to the people with money. This is one of those cases where money does the talking.
Relating to the no-money-no-special-stuff issue, why the heck does Howrse run these bloody contests or whatever anyway? I say, if not everyone can win them, why have even HAVE them? Contests should be made where EVERYONE has an EQUAL chance at winning. Not some, "Buy this and that and you can win the event!" crap. Their events are just scams to get money out of people. The sad truth about Howrse is, they don't even care. I'm sure if you pmed an admin about it, they would probably just kick dirt in your face and send you away. That's how much respect I have lost from Owlient right now.
How it is with getting new stuff is this: You have to get a friend or family member to sign up, and then get THEM to buy tons of passes and stay on the game for a year. Sounds like the perfect way to get into family arguments and multi-account problems.
When I was a kid, Howrse used to be fun. At least they weren't quite AS obsessed as they are about getting new people and bribing people for money as they are now. Lets face it; EVERYONE wants something special, and will pay money for it. Howrse knows it. I still think that kids should have a chance to GET something special for FREE. People who don't pay money deserves the same kind of stuff that the big players get, at least occasionally. Without some stupid event that's rigged.
Upsides of Howrse:
Its a fun, addicting, game. Especially for horse or animal lovers. It has a community with a wide age group and its...strangely awesome. A family-friendly sim where people can go to learn about horses and all that stuff. What more is there to say?

I'm not trying to point fingers, call names, or degrade Howrse in any way, but Howrse has had enough time to change if they wanted to. They never had, and they are continuing to take the game in a wrong [IN MY OPINION!] direction. I do not hate Howrse. I really don't. But neither do I love it xD
