This is a commissioned portrait of Buckwheat. Buckwheat is Blackhoese's gelding. It was fun to create. I kept some of her original paddock so it would be her own. For those those who aren't familiar with horses, that round thing in the back is actually a half round metal barn.
Most challenging: The reins, I'd never seen or drawn rope reins and I had to take them off the back to show that gorgeous dappling and sunspot. Also the mane was tough. He has so many colors it was hard to duplicate and I put the sun at a little different angle to shed some light on the eye and neck. I hope I captured it properly.
I used her photo as reference. She gave me 2 other photos but I didn't use them for my art.
