I hope I am allowed to post O_O; um, dumb question but does the T locus also determine natural vs bobbed tail? Or was the guide I was reading full of it lol. Supposedly TT was bobtail but could be lethal to puppies (maybe always?). Tt was bobtail carrier and tt was natural tail.

Good question! I haven't looked too much into it currently but from what I understand the Natural Bobtail gene you're referring to uses N/BT in some cases and T/t in others. This T locus is specific to coats and has been specified to only be T/Tr/t for ticking and roaning and is not connected to the Bobtail gene in the slightest.

On sites listing testing for bobtails, they use N/N for natural, BT/N for bobtails carrier of natural, and BT/BT for bobtails.

I'll do more research on that alongside other genes not affecting the coats after I've gotten the basic coat genetics done to make it easier to recognize.

@~HєуRєι~
aaaah! I see! very helpful. This is why you can't just click on a random google article. I think I'll adopt the N/BT verbiage for my natural v bobtail pups. Thanks ^^

@BlueEyedKite

Oh for sure! Its something I'm guilty of as well with things like extreme piebald, which has a theorized gene attached to it but no actual evidence of that gene existing to explain the range of piebald. Stuff like that makes it hard and is often on breeder websites alongside the changed coat names which also cause confusion.
