Do NOT, under any circumstances, put a hamster and a cat together! Even if the hamster is in its enclosure the cat is still a predator and the hamster's still a prey animal to it. The cat's presence stresses out the hamster and there's also a huge chance that the cat will try to get to the poor thing!

And agreed, don't do this in real life, this is a fictional friendship that I just felt like bringing into existence, lol

Speaking from experience, I nearly lost a hamster to a kitten we were taking care of inside. The hamster was in a hamster ball, but, seriously, cats are smart little things and they will figure out how to get to a prey that they really want. If you have a cat and a hamster in the same room, please make sure that the hamster is in a safe and enclosed habitat... you might wanna put something heavy on the habitat lid as well if it's not weighted, hamsters are master escape artists and cats are amazing hunters... more than likely, the cat will find the hamster before you do (had that happen before too, luckily we were able to get them away from the cat unharmed and we installed a weighted habitat lid the next day).
