BASE COLOURS
The base colour determines what colour the hipiki will be beneath the markings. The tuft is usually a darker shade of the base. They have four main base colours, however these can be changed by base modifiers- namely the dilution and viridity loci. Further markings are usually in a darker or lighter shade of the base colour, however other pattern modifiers exist that can change the colour of the markings.

Unmodified Bases:
As stated before, hipikis have four main base colours. These are Night (N), Earth (n), Ocean (no) and Garnet (ng). The order of dominance is the order in which the bases are listed.

NN, Nn, Nno, Nng- Night (+ carrying earth, ocean and garnet respectively)
nn, nno, nng- Earth (+ carrying ocean and garnet respectively)
nono, nong- Ocean (+ carrying garnet)
ngng- Garnet

Dilute Bases:
When dilution (d) is present, the base colours are lightened to a paler version of the unmodified base.
Night becomes Ash - Earth becomes Ochre - Ocean becomes Stone - Garnet becomes Ruby

DD, Dd- Nondilute (+ carrying dilute)
dd- Dilute

Virid Bases:
When viridity is present, the base colours present a heightened saturation and brightness of the base colour. This is a typically rare modifier due to the natural camouflage of the hipikis being disturbed.
Night becomes Amethyst - Earth becomes Topaz - Ocean becomes Sapphire - Garnet becomes Agate

VV, Vv- Nonvirid (+ carrying virid)
vv- Virid

Dilute and Virid Bases:
When both dilution and viridity are present, the base becomes a paler, more washed out version of the virid base.
These do not have particular names due to their great scarcity; instead, the virid base name has 'light' on the front of it (eg Light Amethyst).
