generic dragon thing critique it

Postby KingDiesel » Fri May 10, 2019 7:43 pm

this is another species in my story known as the Restyties, the natural predator of the species known as the Seikies, (if you look on my gallery, I have two drawn named Carmen and Albatross). This specific one right here has the most GENERIC name of all existence; Crystal. She's quite small for a Restyty, and Albatross's minion. She's his assasination puppet, and in return she get's as much prey as a *Seiki* could eat; Restyties have a much larger diet, therefor resulting in her dwarfness. I haven't written much about her at all, except that Albatross has brainwashed her to fear her own species. Obviously since mirrors don't exist in the world, nor does the idea of reflections, (except in the most intelligent of the animals).

if anyone was possibly interested, I was thinking of maybe opening Seikies/Restyties as a temporarily open species if anyone wanted to have one.

anyways, Restyties are probably open right now, (I'm closing them probably in a couple weeks from now)because there aren't enough Restyty characters in my story??

if you would l'm willing to hear its' descrption, and if anyone wants to make a Restyty/Seiki, I can list some rules? this sounds a little overconfident wregftytfghtfrhfht

Hello! I've never critiqued anything before, but here goes!

First of all, I like the design a lot! I like the colors a lot, and I love the contrast of the warm colored eye against the cool colored body. For my critiques however, I'd advise working on the anatomy of your little fella. I love the torso shape, (you gave her room for her organs! yay!) but the legs could use some fine tuning. In this pose, the front leg closer to me should appear larger than the far one. Giving a bit more of a defined shoulder would also do wonders for this little gal.

The only other thing I have a critique for is her hind legs, I like that you've gone a bit more dynamic with the pose instead of a basic profile, but it requires a tad bit more flow. If I was to point out the spine, the point where it meets the tail is a bit too jarring to be a comfortable pose. As a viewer, I should see more of the spine of the back making a gentle curve to where it meet the base of her tail. Then, adjusting the pose of the hind leg closest to me, we could wrap the tail around her leg! (As I think that's very cute!)

Let me know if I explained this clear enough, I'd also be happy to do a little sketch if you'd like a visual! I'm happy to answer any questions and I hope this helps! In all seriousness though, I do really love the design of this creature. Nice job!

hey, thank you, I'm really happy you like her design! <3

aHEM!

I can see what you mean with the front legs . . . like the one closer to the viewer is all weird and scrunched up, while the back one is giant, right? I get it, since like the camera angle would be like having her front side be a bit closer! (she DEFINITELY needs shoulders, since they have big strong legs for running, despite coming down in more of a seed shape)

and as for the back legs, the one on ground level looks a bit broken since this is more of a sideview, not a 3/4's! but do you mind further elaborating on the spine connecting to the tail thing? like I get what you mean by how it's jarring, like a little too. . . pointed down ish? like I can definitely see HOW it's uncomfortable, but if you don't mind and have time, could you give me an idea on the curve so I know what I'm talking about?

thank you though, and once again, I'm really happy you like her design!

Yeah I can do that! It's no biggie.

I think it's like... her whole body except for her tail and left hind leg are in a side view pose, while the tail and rear leg are turned away from the viewer. It's most definitely possible to merge the two views for a more dynamic pose, but the leg closest to me also must be turned away from the viewer, with a little more of the back showing. Basically, from her shoulder blades we should see her spine flowing in a gentle curve so that it sits in the middle of her rear legs and becomes the tail. We should be able to see her spine almost the whole way down her back to have her legs in that position.

I'm not the best at explaining but I hope I did a little better this time? If not don't hesitate to ask for more clarification or a sketch of what I'm talking about, this is learning for me too because it makes me think on explaining and how I would go about changing the lass, so by all means, if you want more help from me go right on ahead! :)

Edit: I drew it on a sticky note and have a revision lol, unlike the far leg, which is mostly covered by the tail, the close leg is still facing away from me, but not completely. More of a 3/4 view on the close leg and a back view of the far leg.
