Yes the background layer. Well then I advise just doing one that kinda goes around the head it doesn't have to go through or anything.. an abstract one like...


I made it really horrible I know but just look at the background xD

See the green curves and purple/blue lines? Simple things like that can add to the picture (: there's lots of other examples I could show you if you want better than that.. xD I fail.

Not really I learned on my own but..

the first layer is the background layer. You never draw your sketch there. make a new layer which is the plus button and draw your sketch/outline there. Make a new layer and if your coloring the lineart select multiply from the dropdown menu. If your just using the outline you made as a ref leave it on normal. Name all layers and experiment with the effect you can do... That's some kinda basic it's hard to think about it without looking..
