- but personally it kinda sucks when you're told you should just give up on art since you feel like you'll never improve

honestly, anyone who says you cannot improve on art has a fundamental misunderstanding of art, or any creative endeavor - or ANY endeavor, really. so feel free to disregard them completely! i like your rendering here - you've got a great idea of how to do 'underpainting', and i am so looking forward to your future art on here! if you can do this in 30 mins, i bet what you can do in 2 hours will be truly stunning!
