Silmcerta [single, pronounced as sill-ma-seer-tah]
Silmcertas [plural, pronounced as silm-seer-tas]
A mix of the words simia and lacerta which translate to Monkey and Lizard.
A Silmcertas, often shortened to Silms, are a race of highly intelligent mammals. They're often found in the jungles making their homes in trees. They're herbivores and often peaceful creatures. Their fur is soft and waterproof, good for swimming across large rivers during the rainy seasons. They sport two ears that connect and work as one.
Their feathered manes are the most desirable feature of them. Their manes are often used to attract mates or show off to others and almost always are a vibrant, neon color. They're slim and nimble creatures able to easily jump from branch to branch with ease. Their back legs evolved into bird like talons for gripping trees, food, or the like while climbing or running. They have three toes on each foot, two in front and two in back with hard pads for rough branches. Their tails are used for, but not limited to, hanging onto branches, holding "hands", mating rituals, and balance. They're long and often drag behind them.
The most unique trait though, are the eyes on their front legs. Often, these eyes just function as normal eyes though witches often believe them to see the future through them. In common mythology, they're like third eyes that can see the future and past. Only certain Silms have this trait though, and the use of their leg eyes is unknown to current scientist. Lore though, states that they were given an extra pair of eyes so that they may watch over the other species of the jungle and protect them.
