Apparently I can texture manes but can't outline them, lol.
Does anyone know why alpha-lock doesn't work on low opacity pixels? The shadows on the shading layer stay if I try to recolor them, but the highlights go dark...

how did you do the highlights? If you erased with lock alpha on or if you used a white brush to add the highlights, then they'll get filled in when you recolour. You have to erase them with lock alpha off, then lock to recolour the layer.
