More than one piece is fine! Going above-and-beyond on anything is perfectly acceptable, and might boost your chances at winning. :)

Oh, sorry that was vague. Essentially it means you write a short story about something in the character's life. I could be about anything, really, and doesn't need a plot. It's just a way of giving some insight into the character by writing about their experiences. Here's a Plumerian that had a write-a-story-to-adopt contest. There's 10 pages of entries there, so I'm sure there are some good examples, though I haven't read them all. c:
There's no word limit, btw, so feel free to write as much as you want. :>
