So frustrating to see them finally decide to use a concept that's been staring them in the face for years (region specific variances) and they do something like this. Persians a panther. FRIGGIN ROLL WITH YOUR OWN CONCEPT!

don't get me wrong, im not happy that he's on two legs, but the whole fire/fighting thing needs to go Dx

my guess is that they kinda shot themselves in the foot when they made pyroar. they didnt want another big-cat-type-thing

eh i don't think it was that.
i mean it would only be the third one (liepard is a leopard so ) or they could of made it into a lynx, and fire dark would work, some sort of new wildcat, smallcat or big cat. just on 4 legs, they were doing so well up to torracat ;n;

thats what i mean though, you get persian, liepard, pyroar, and then the new guy.
i agree that literally anything else would have been better. it was getting iffy when they gave torracat the sown-in bell collar. i guess that's why im not as upset with the final form, kinda was coming .w. i know infernape and emboar were doing the whole 'journey to the west theme', maybe they wanted to build off that?
the owl though! im actually kinda impressed. I wasn't sure where they were going with that one.

I think that the Alola Persian is like that on purpose. Why else would they ruin it?

But it looks liike its based off an actual Persian rather than a panther. It makes sense that it would turn ugly when you look at what happened to the real cat itself and the results of selective breeding, which would happen with this pokemon as for a long time it was for royalty only in Alola.

I've actually come to like its goofy looking design. At first I hated it, but it grew on me.

Alolan persian is probably actually based on british shorthair cats; matching the blue coat and uh. large face.

if you go for the 'its supposed to be a cat' argument, y no actual persian? stylized of course considering its the size of a cougar. i mean, they could have given it more fur and be more stylized like the cat. i mean, im down for the selective breeding making it ugly stuff, just, you know, go for broke? why not reincorporate the siamese marks it had in the first gen games? its already there...
the British shorthair i think is a coincidence, and even still, if you're going to go from an interpretation of a mountain lion to a more house cat, wouldnt there be more changes? i mean look at it:

you have the original, mountain lion/carbuncle

and then the alola which is literally a blue version of it with a circle face

it just feels sloppy, like they started to edit it and then forgot about it until the due date and was all 'welp, the grade i get is what i get'. not sure if the prior screen shots of it without the circle face are real or not, but if they are, this was a last minute adjustment.

as far as cute, i guess i'll get used to it, but meh. drawing, it may be easier since its just a circle. but man, im just disappointed at all that potential they just wasted =/
