If you haven’t heard, it has been announced that J28 Polaris has died of starvation and septicemia. Her calf, J54 Dipper, may soon follow if he hasn’t already.
This is a very hard time for the Southern Resident Killer Whales (population now down to 80 individuals) and the people who love and study them.
If you would like to contribute to those trying to help and save the SRKW, please consider adopting J46 Star, the daughter of Polaris and sister of Dipper. She tried so hard to keep her family alive, but catching enough fish to feed three whales was not possible for her. After the passing of her mother, Star still tried to save Dipper. She attempted to feed him and keep his weak body at the surface to breathe. But he is believed to have perished as well.
If you can’t afford adopting Star, you can still help by signing this petition, supporting the removal of the Snake River Dams in order to provide more salmon for the SRKW.
Rest/Swim in Peace, J28 and J54. We will never forget you.
