Wolf Pup

Postby Hubble » Sat May 28, 2016 6:33 am

I see so many people on the internet who declare they love wolves. It strikes me so odd that they know so little about them, though. Prepare for a tiny rant. (I don't rant much, so I do apologize for doing so now.)

Something caught my attention today. While reading some stories on a small blog, I came across one that began something like this: The beautiful pure white wolf lay in the meadow, a happy scene despite the tears rolling from her icy blue eyes. She perked her ears as she heard steps in the forest. She walked over and pinned a great deer down, swiftly killing it with one blow. She howled to the cloudless sky, proud of her hunt. Why? It seems that I cannot go a day online without seeing four new wolf OCs and fursonas. However, it is too common that the people who make these have this limited false knowledge of how wolves work: They are either black with red or yellow eyes or white with red or blue eyes. There are a lot of lone wolves who get along with packs just fine. A single wolf can take down a moose. There are a lot of wolves and farmers have no problem with them interacting with livestock. Here's the thing. Most wolves are shades of brown or grey. Wolves cannot cry because of anything expect some eye irritation. Wolf eyes are most common brown, green, or orange. Wolves live in packs made up of a family, including mammas, daddies, pups, grandmamas, uncles, nieces, and everybody else. It takes that pack to hunt, forage, and live. The saddest part of this? Many people do not realize the predicament wolves are in. With the number of livestock farms on wolf territory, more of these canines are being killed to protect
your new fleece jacket that ever before. (Yes, I do live on a cattle farm near a good population of wolves and coyotes. We have a donkey to keep them away.) How about we look up from our roleplays for a minute to help so many's "favorite animal"?

This art is free for anyone's use as long as they do not take credit.

Edit: This is beginning to become a little controversial, and I am fine with sharing opinions, but please keep them respectful if you wish to offer your thoughts.

Thank you! I mean wolves aren't my favorite animal but I still know more than most people that have them as their favorite animals, some people don't even care to learn about their fursona, or their character they use in an RP it bugs me sometimes..

Thanks for actually reading that and actually agreeing with it, ha. :) Yeah, a lot of people put such little thought into their characters and it bugs me, especially when the reality of these creatures and so many more are so interesting.

Yeah, wolves are amazing creatures, and I think that Mexican Grey Wolves are a species we should not let die. In fact, this image was based off of a Mexican Grey's pup. Also, donating to WWF would be great. They do so much to help animals in need. :)

-worships this- I have two werewolf ocs, Percy and War. In wolf form, War is dark brown with green-ish eyes and Percy is a grey that's not silver but not dark grey with dark eyes. I really am tired of seeing those types of ocs (the one you shared). I really am. Not every female wolf has to be silver with icy blue eyes. Not every female wolf is "stunningly beautiful". Not every male wolf has to be jet black with unusual eyes. For the love of Pete, people, learn about the actual animal.

Perhaps I wasn't specific, sorry. I am fine with seeing these types of things in roleplays with winged wolves and magical powers or whatever. It just strikes me as strange that I find this kind of stuff labelled "realistic" and I just think that these are such great creatures that we need to use the realistic stuff for what they actually do so that maybe we can understand why they need our help so much. This isn't just for wolves, of course, but for every animal. (On an unrelated topic, that is a lovely gif in your signature, ha.)

Thank you for being one of the few who actually cares to put thought into their characters. I appreciate that. It seems our mindset on stereotypes in the real world is leaking into our stories, so thank you for actually putting some time into your characters to actually give them, well, character. :)

Thanks! Yeah, people are doing black and white a lot and then having fifty wolves that all look the same, ha. Thanks for having realistic characters, though. The realism really does help us understand them. :)

Yeah, I do agree with that.
