Something caught my attention today. While reading some stories on a small blog, I came across one that began something like this: The beautiful pure white wolf lay in the meadow, a happy scene despite the tears rolling from her icy blue eyes. She perked her ears as she heard steps in the forest. She walked over and pinned a great deer down, swiftly killing it with one blow. She howled to the cloudless sky, proud of her hunt. Why? It seems that I cannot go a day online without seeing four new wolf OCs and fursonas. However, it is too common that the people who make these have this limited false knowledge of how wolves work: They are either black with red or yellow eyes or white with red or blue eyes. There are a lot of lone wolves who get along with packs just fine. A single wolf can take down a moose. There are a lot of wolves and farmers have no problem with them interacting with livestock. Here's the thing. Most wolves are shades of brown or grey. Wolves cannot cry because of anything expect some eye irritation. Wolf eyes are most common brown, green, or orange. Wolves live in packs made up of a family, including mammas, daddies, pups, grandmamas, uncles, nieces, and everybody else. It takes that pack to hunt, forage, and live. The saddest part of this? Many people do not realize the predicament wolves are in. With the number of livestock farms on wolf territory, more of these canines are being killed to protect
your new fleece jacket that ever before. (Yes, I do live on a cattle farm near a good population of wolves and coyotes. We have a donkey to keep them away.) How about we look up from our roleplays for a minute to help so many's "favorite animal"?
