Zìyóu hurried through the rain, flinching when thunder and lightning broke the sky. Teeki laid huddled on his shoulders, using his soft mane as a poor umbrella in a fight against raindrops the size of a dime. Zìyóu slid in the mud and stumbled, trying not to fall. His left paw caught on a root and twisted awkwardly, throwing him to the ground and sending flames of pain up his leg. He bit his tongue as he fought back a scream and tasted blood. He laid in the rain for a while, his breath shaky as he tried to calm the agony that soared through his leg. Lightning cracked again, and Zìyóu grunted. He turned himself over and pressed his fore paws into the mud, trying to ignore the slick feeling as they sunk several inches into the filth. He stabilized himself on his right leg, keeping the weight off of his left, and took several deep breaths. Finally, he sucked in a sharp breath and pushed off of the ground with his fore paws, wobbling as he rose to his hind legs again. He began to tip to the left and instinctively set down his injured leg, which sent another flare of pain up it. He hissed through his teeth and lifted it again, panting from the pain. "Teeki, how are you?" A low, annoyed chur escaped the bird on his shoulder and Zìyóu nodded sharply. "Good to know. Hang on."
Zìyóu looked down at his wounded leg. The ankle had already swollen and a bit of blood was beginning to show. Zìyóu tensed his shoulders and pressed foreword at a rapid pace, hobbling through the mud as he went. At times, his foot would collide with a puddle, and icy water would splash his leg, bringing a moment of relief from the burning of the injury. Finally, a small den came into view, a simple hole in the side of a mound of dirt and grass about as tall as he was. Zìyóu quickened his pace and hobbled to the hole, plunging into it when he got close enough. Instantly, his body collided with something soft yet hard that squeaked in fright when he hit it. Zìyóu turned his head to the creature, his eyes widened in fear and pain. From within the den, a slightly smaller head rose and looked at him with large violet-pink eyes. The two sat motionless for several moments, until the bright eyes flickered down his body, examining his crooked posture and resting on his swollen ankle. The viscet did not hesitate, standing on all fours and crawling to the back of the den before returning and hunching over his leg. Zìyóu flinched at first, uncertain of who this was and what they were doing, but calmed after a moment as the pain in his leg ceased. His gaze toggled between his leg and the brilliant eyes in fascination and fear. "How?..."
"It's just a sprain."
"Who are you?"
The viscet didn't so much as glance up from her work. "Nabi."
"Thank you..."
"What's yours?"
"Zìyóu. The bird is Teeki."
Nabi glanced at Teeki for a moment before continuing her work. "You can stay here for the night. In the morning it should be better."
Zìyóu nodded slightly and watched as she crawled to the back of the den again before returning. "Thank you..."
She nodded and curled up with her back to him. "Goodnight, Zìyóu."
"Goodnight, Nabi..." Zìyóu curled up and watched the rain fall on a mass variety of flowers that rested outside of Nabi's den.
