Zìyóu padded along, entering a heavily wooded area while his mind pondered on his encounter with Nanook. He recited every movement the viscet made, trying to figure out how on earth he had managed to leap that high and catch such a small creature while doing it. I guess he did have the appearance of a dog... and some dogs can jump high... but that doesn't affect it, right? Zìyóu froze as the thought of how high he must be able to leap if he had a running start at first. In his moment of shock, he didn't notice the two large bodies of viscets that thundered toward him until it was too late. The leading one, a red and black viscet with frosty blue eyes, crashed into him and flipped over, skidding on its stomach for a moment while Zìyóu laid dazed on the ground. The second, Nanook, slowed by trotting and looked at the red and black viscet with a smirk. "I think that means that I win."
"Hah! I just tripped! Beside, I was in the lead any way!" The red and black viscet jumped to his feet and grinned daringly at Nanook, ignoring Zìyóu as he staggered to his feet.
"Sure, just keep telling yourself that." Nanook looked at Zìyóu and cocked his head. "Ah, it's you again. Zìyóu, right?"
"Yeah..."
The red and black one turned to face him and smiled confidently. "Hello, Zìyóu. My name is Flame. Sorry about that, when I race I am all in!"
Zìyóu chuckled a bit. "I can see that, but don't worry about it. It happens more often than you'd think."
Flame stepped up to him suddenly and eyed him. "Hey, your a muscular viscet. How'd you like to race?"
"Race? Well, I-"
"Great! Two minutes, straight ahead, non-stop. On your mark, get set, go!" Flame took off and Zìyóu stumbled a moment before chasing after him while Nanook followed casually behind them.
"Hey, Zìyóu. If you want to win you might want to speed up." Nanook smirked at Zìyóu slightly, clearly curious to see the result of this sudden race.
Zìyóu grunted slightly and leaned foreword, forcing all of his energy into running as fast as he could and slowly catching up to Flame. His muscles clicked as he pushed them past what they were used to. His foot caught on a rock and he stumbled, almost falling. His eyes widened and he picked up the pace, watching the ground and weaving around every obstacle that looked as if it could down him.
As a minute passed, Zìyóu remained stuck behind Flame, caught just at his side. Everytime he sped up, Flame mimicked him until Zìyóu slowed again. Zìyóu grunted and leaned foreword, urging himself onward. As expected, Flame mimicked him, keeping him back a bit. Zìyóu glanced up with a determined glare. He couldn't out run him, but maybe he could out smart him. Zìyóu pressed himself onward, forcing himself to run faster than he thought possible. Flame began to glance at him, confused at this sudden burst of energy and struggling to keep pace. Zìyóu smirked and slammed his paws down. Instinctivly, Flame mimicked him, stumbling as he realized what he was doing. When the momentum threw Zìyóu foreword, he ran onward while stumbling. He clenched his jaw and powered onward, hoping that the two minute marker was almost up. Close behind, he heard twigs snap beneath Flames weight as the viscet chased after him. Soon, the two were neck and neck, and Nanook shouted out the time. Both skid to a stop and turned to face each other. Zìyóu stood hunched over, panting violently and shaking from exhaustion. Flame stood in front of him, panting heavily and gazing in curiosity at Zìyóu.
"Well then. It looks like I was right about you." Flame rose slightly with a smirk. "Where are you from?"
Zìyóu let out a breath and straightened. "China."
"Well then. Did you run to here then?"
Zìyóu chuckled slightly. "No... I got on a boat."
"A boat? Really?"
"Yeah... I got my head stuck under something when the boat left shore..."
Flame and Nanook looked at each other before beginning to laugh. Zìyóu chuckled slightly with them, looking at the two nervously.
"So, where have you been?"
"Eh...All over the place. I'm heading west."
"Sounds good." Flame nodded slightly, a small spark in his eye. " Have you been in a volcano yet?"
"Um...no.."
"I have." Flame stretched and Nanook rolled his eyes. "Several times, actually."
"Oh, that must have been amazing!"
"It was. Maybe when you get stronger you can go there."
"I don't think I will... while it sounds amazing, I'm not reckless."
Flame jumped slightly and Nanook laughed. "He got you there, Flame!"
Flame shot him a glare and rolled his shoulders. "Well, Zìyóu. We should be getting back now. Next time we meet, I expect another race, so be prepared!"
Zìyóu smiled. "Sounds good to me."
Nanook and Flame turned away and padded off toward their camp. Zìyóu smiled a bit and padded onward, thinking about the race that was bound to happen again.
