but basically lizard-esque storage units, originally created for war etc.
some escaped and were brought in by dog breeders who cared for them. somehow they managed to breed w/ some of the dogs, making the hybrid. the hybrids were then seeked out to be killed but were then found to be better than the originals. they can be used for most things, pets, guard things, sniffer dogs (or whatever they are).

grey is fur, dark grey is reinforced bone (RB) white is glass-like material. the shell (thats what im gonna call it) can store stuff inside of it, pretty much anything (the more unusual, the rarer. basically like water vs lava. or if there is more than one thing, like sticks and stones??) theyre also able to condense the stuff they eat into a gas, liquid (can be viscous/flowy) or fire. this is used for self defence. this also helps as they become lighter and can flee/go faster.
magic is very rare in the species.
the fur is quite short apart from on the tail and the tufts
lots of mutations are quite common! rarer traits are things like fins, but they are possible!
they can have any marking/colouration. the shell is usually clear, but can become cloudy when the [namehere] falls ill/is close to death/is young, the RB is usually a dark colour, but in rare cases can be light/bright.
they can understand human speech and pick it up quite quickly. they tend to make chirpy noises and dog noises
they are often seen in groups, much like human villages.

they need a name?? i guess i'll give a rare for the most fitting name??
if anyone thinks they'll work as a species idk???
