Rest in Peace, Unna
1996 - 2015
Remember, kids. Captivity kills.
Unna was an 18 year old orca who lived at SeaWorld San Antonio. She was the calf of Katina and Tilikum, and separated from Katina at the age of six. For nearly her whole life, she had been given antibiotics for fungal spores found in her urine. Over the last eight years, the fungus (Candida) grew resistant to the treatment. Unna became very sick in September 2015. Despite 24/7 medical care, she unfortunately passed away on December 21, 2015.
In layman's terms, SeaWorld killed one of their killer whales through their indiscriminate use of antibiotics.
Congratulations on reaching the Endless Ocean, Unna. You'll never have to suffer again.
