- Fall Out Boy, Jet Pack Blues
It's been awhile since Haestine has been the subject of my art. If anyone remembers;
Haestine and Luxyrus were mates, and they couldn't be happier together. In their bliss, they decided to start a family. Not only was she his love, Luxyrus was his light, his moon and stars, and his other half. Shortly after their pups started growing into apprentices and Warriors, Luxyrus left the pack, her family, and worst of all, Haestine. She gave no real explanation and didn't waste her time in saying goodbye.
At that time, Sigurd, who was Nexus' mate, also left the pack, leaving his mate and their newborn pups all alone. Nexus had rejected Haestine in the past when they were still in training, but he still cared for her. So he tried his best to help her and her new pups, only to be met with cold, unfeeling nonchalance at every turn. Not only was Nexus making it obvious she didn't care for Haestine, but her pups took on that feeling towards him as well.
Recently, Nexus went into a strange fit upon the appearance of the Grim. A newcomer to the pack, named Imoen, was able to help Nexus better than he ever could. With his spirits down, he turned to walk away. That's when Imoen told Nexus that he had been worried about her, and she should go talk to him. Nexus replied, "It's a scar of an old love running deep. He still cares, I do not." Those words struck him deeper than Nexus would ever come close to realizing.
His heart heavy, paws feeling as if they were filled with lead, Haestine shrugged off his armor and started walking, head down. He didn't know where he was walking, nor did he care. He just wanted to walk, to let himself be mindless in his solace. Not only had Nexus rejected him in the past, she had done it again, even when he wasn't even trying to woo her. He was simply trying to be there for her, to help her through life. Both their mates had left, and neither really had anyone else to lean on. Now, his mate was gone, potentially dead, one of his children dead, and Nexus wanted nothing to do with him, even though he had never done anything to wrong her.
Yes, he was a strong General in charge of the Seth patrol, but that was merely his facade. Inside that exterior, was a heart broken pup, who although he needs someone, doesn't want to let himself love again. Its ended in disaster every time, and he wants to keep himself from having his heart ripped from him a third time.
Finally, he stopped when he reached a cliff edge. The air was cold, crisp... The only sound he could hear was the sound of the wind, which sounded eerie and distant. The big male turned his head slightly to look back towards the dens that he had left quite some time ago. His royal blue eyes glowed slightly in the soft moon light. Drawing in a breath, he let it out in a long sigh, before he turned his nose to the air. He tilted his head back, parted his jaws, and let out a soft howl. When he was done, he brought his head down and waited.
The only sound that answered him was the cold wind.
